Landstar AA&E, is the money really there?

I don’t want to get into a situation where we are the new kids on the block and the agents have their favorites and we get stuck hauling cheap freight waiting for a spot open up on the DOD board. If there isn’t a need for our services at Landstar it would make more sense just to stay put.
3. Is it easy to use the Landstar load board to find freight moving virtually anywhere you want to go? I know it wouldn’t be high paying freight unless you got lucky but yesterday we dead headed all the way from the bay area to Washington state to get home because my company supposedly couldn’t find any freight moving from California to Washington. If I had been with Landstar would I have been able to pick up a load and at least pay for the fuel money getting back?

If you haul AA&E for LS I would love to get your take. We will probably call Landstar soon but I’m sure their recruiters will paint a really rosy picture, or just outright lie, so I would put more weight on what you have to say.

We made great money with TSMT last summer but decided to switch to a 100% DOD company just because we hated toxic waste. Tri-State also has too much Canada based freight that seems to only need moving in the winter. LS seems like it could be great if you learn the system and get in with the right agents but my wife and I are both introverts and not good at schmoozing. Sorry but I don’t do Twitter.

My wife and are have been company drivers for TSMT R&R for ten years. We are considering buying a custom sleeper rig. Did you end up leaving TSMT?
