Assuming channel 19 has nobody mid-conversation, what's the proper way to say "I'm a bored sedan driver and am looking for someone to talk to"? As in, without sounding like an idiot by jumping on with "breaker breaker 1-9".

Saying “I ain’t got no panties on” usually gets a response. Something to the extent of “shut up stupid”. You could also bring up politics, it goes over like a lead balloon.

    Do what I do.

Just say "this is Trump traffic. Impeach Trump! Hillary won the popular vote! Had we elected Hillary we wouldn't be stuck in all this traffic." And then hang up the mic and listen to the entertainment that follows.

announce your handle, and what highway and direction your traveling, and if there's anybody ahead of you in the city, you're driving through. And then share road conditions etc. for drivers behind you Let the drivers know if there is a DOT checkpoint or a highway patrol doing a speed trap ( a fundraiser) let 'em know who you are, and that your a 4 wheeler. Share some useful info and the conversation comes easy. Tell a joke, talk about food. You can never sound like an idiot on the radio, as long as your not an angry punk.

Just jump in and OFFER useful info, as advised, like last known traffic tie ups or bear sightings.
These days and times don't expect a comeback very often.
I still squawk about bears when I see them... to no avail. It's like talking to the windshield.
The biggest majority of drivers don't turn their radio on until they see traffic come to a halt.

    There's an idea for ya!

"Hey East Bound... bad wreck in front of ya... backed up about 5 miles.. better look for another route".

Try that if they won't talk to ya.
It'll prove they had em on and were ignoring you. Let em wallow in it.

Pick up something in eye vision that is USEFUL TO YOU AND EVERYONE FIRST.

For instance it's 28 on ice where I am at (MM, highway etc) downgrade at 15.

Don't worry someone will come up and USUALLY appreciate that information. Or elaborate on the situation below or over the summit.

Otherwise the radio is turned down low. Most of it is equal to bedlam in a kindergarden recess to me.

Nothereoften, pmdriver and Oldironfan Thank this.
