    Dear new drivers,

We have a forum on TTR for accidents, but I thought this would be an excellent example of what NOT to do. As you learn your way around the roads and highways of the US, you'll often seen length restrictions in your atlas or on your GPS for roads that you should not drive on. Sometimes it's a low clearance overpass which we've all seen hundreds of times on Youtube, but a lot of the time it's because there are curves in the road that are simply too tight for a full sized rig to navigate.

This video from a couple days ago is of what appears to be an owner/operator who should have known better trying to take a route that is heavily restricted for trucks. It's California route 175 east of Hopland, and is about 40 miles north of where I live. There are HUGE signs everywhere advising trucks not to take the route that this driver ignored. Odds are very good that his insurance won't pay for the truck and loss of the load because of his gross negligence. This is a stupid career killing move. If you aren't sure about a route, pull over and figure it out before proceeding.

I've driven that road. The signs mean exactly what they say.
    Most signs do.

This video is popping up a lot. I didn’t read the story behind it... I wonder if the driver maybe was a non-English speaker and didn’t understand the signs? That sounds ridiculous but it seems to happen a lot.

I'm for anything that will teach drivers to respect the size and weight of that rig. Anything that will show in graphic detail how their actions effect other drivers. Unfortunately most of today's new drivers have not learned that lesson. Between these greenhorn drivers and these I have been doing this for 40 years I know what I am doing drivers, well what can I say. Let me put it this way. I had a chance to speak to a state legislator about a new truck restriction law that state had just made into law. A law that she sponsored. Why? Because she was tired of seeing drivers do this thing all the time. Just about every truck restriction law in existence today owes it's genesis to either this, or someone has discovered a source of money! Think about that!

New law then, old law now. It was just a lane restriction law from NC. In all honesty I can't remember if it was the actual lane restriction or a toughing of the penalties for violating it. Remember one of the main problems I am having with the slow progression of my disease is it is beginning to rob me of some of my memories.
