Governed Speed???

I can tell your new to the industry, getting a load delivered with a truck that only does 60 just takes the right scheduling, Swift have there trucks set at those speeds to save fuel pure and simple and with large companies we're talking millions of $ annually other reasons are for insurance purposes you're going to find it harder and harder to get a company truck that's governed at 75 mph plus in some states the legal speed for a truck is only 55 mph (CA, OR, IL) are 3 i can think of.

 

Trip planning. Just like how you plan for traffic delays, weather delays or other possible problems along the way, you leave time to get there and know what you and your truck are capable of achieving before committing to any appointment.

My truck is governed to 105 km/h (~65 mph) and the "sweet spot" for the motor is at 99 km/h (~61.5 mph). So I drive at 99 km/h.

alot of these posts are just ridiculous. 11 hours a day with ELD ...If i am paid by the mile then that obviously limits how much I make. Stop with the fuel saving lectures this should be a question for company drivers only and dont bring up continued employment. Owner operators blast past me doing 80 on the 10 all the time. What trucking conpanies pay by the mile and dont govern speed? Simple question, dont need all the common sense knowledge repeated from you people.

 

I think some of the Eastern European/Chicago based 1099 companies will let you drive as fast as you want to. I'm sure they'll be more than glad to have you.

I was going to add more but you "don't need all that common sense knowledge....." so I'll hold back on that.

i hate to drive at 65 mph also but never heard of such thing as unsafe if you drive at slower speed. it has nothing to do with you if someone else hit you because you drive slower. also if you couldnt pass someone safely because of your speed then dont. it is so confusing for me for anyone that think drive slower is somehow more dangerous. if it is because of limitation on the paycheck then own yourself a truck and do whatever you would to it

 

I agree with you for the most part but there are situations where speeding up is safer than slowing down.

One obvious one is in the case of a steering tire blowout. You need to give it some throttle so it steers less in the direction of the blowout. A 65 governed truck driving 65 has no extra speed to compensate.

 

Dude. You need to get real. What heavy truck is going to have a blow out at 65 then "accelerate" to 70+ in the first 5 seconds? Furthermore WTH says you should accelerate following a blowout? These forums are getting harder and harder to sit through and observe all the bad "advice" being imparted.
