2017 was still a pentalty year that got paid in April of 18’

 

The very first thing Trump did on Inauguration Day (Feb 2017) was sign an Executive Order that essentially took the penalties away for not participating in the Unconstitutional Forced To Buy A "Service" Act. The IRS immediately obliged and let taxpayers leave the section that asks about healthcare blank and they would still accept the return. So basically, no penalty.

I'm no CPA so I'm sure your guy knows more than I do but I left that bad boy blank knowing about Trump's EO.

 

The health care penalty under Obama never left a recourse to go after you for it. It's has no power to go for the penalty so if you didn't pay it they couldn't do sht nothing changed except Trump made it widely know.
