Hi all! I start training at Class 'A' in Armada, MI tomorrow. Already have pre-hires from USA Truck, Werner and Falcon. The recruiter said based on no accidents/tickets in five yrs and no felonies/misdemeanors ever I should expect to get a few offers two weeks into the four week course. This is a career transition for me and I am very excited. My wife says she hasn't seen me this excited about a job ever! See you all out on the road!

Well, I completed the 160 hour course on March 20 & passed the CDL-A test on March 25. In the last two weeks of school I was working with a recruiter for the company that was on the top of my list, Watkins Shepard. I was excited and had everything packed and ready to start on Monday, March 30 in Missoula. On Friday afternoon I got a call from the recruiting manager to let me know that they were not hiring due to economic conditions. To say I was bummed is an understatement.
I have three other pre-hire letters and interest from a couple more. So, today I am pounding the keyboard checking out other companies and filling out more apps. Tomorrow I will be hitting the phone lines following up with all those I have already communicated with and those recently applied to. I hate the thought of unpacking! But, I understand that it might be a few weeks before I get into another orientation session.
If you are reading this please feel free to make suggestions on where I should focus my attention. Thanks in advance! -
I have read that trucking companies are flooded with apps from laid off people and that they are being pretty picky. Keep pestering them, you will get in. Maybe even consider some local, regional type companies, too.
jfr Thanks this.
