Has anyone noticed the increase in "local" gravel trucks, parking over-night at most truck-stops? You roll in at 10-11pm, and 1/4 of all parking spots are taken by these gravel trucks. What's up with that? Do they have some deal with the land owners to park there? As they don't seem to have a shop or base of operations.

Canucklehead, dgudmundson and CraigInReston Thank this. -
Possibly operating the companies out of a kitchen (no phone booths anymore) and nowhere to park or service equipment, not that maintenance is top of their agenda.
Locally in the north we don't have camels at the hitching post as yet..CraigInReston Thanks this. -
LMFAO! That is hilarious my friend! You're absolutely right. I notice these guys doing repairs and maintenance using duct tape! In Saskatoon, they all seem to be numbered companies out of Alberta. Is Saskatchewan really that hard up for local gravel drivers, or are these guys under-cutting the locals? Would be interesting to get a local's point of view on this.

Fly by night crooks. All of them. As soon as the CVSE roll into town they go and hide because those pieces of #### they drive aren't even fit for the roads in the countries they came from.
dgudmundson, BigHossVolvo, magoo68 and 1 other person Thank this. -
With our current immigration policy, on entry requirements, I don't know who is to blame worse: Trudeau or The Queen. I recently was working with an immigrant from Russia, and was told he had to spend close to 10 times more money to enter/work in Canada, than someone coming from a Commonwealth nation (India) for example. This Russian could read/write/speak perfect English, while a vast majority from the Commonwealth countries can barely speak, never-mind read/write.
I don't know how this benefits Canada, to choose "the bottom of the barrel" immigrants, unless it's some deal made between England and Canada years ago.jimbo47, Canucklehead, muletrain and 3 others Thank this. -
If it’s not a new Canadian snagging the spots as their personal yard .. Then it becomes a bison switch yard it seems..
CraigInReston and BigHossVolvo Thank this. -

It seems to depend on where the work is.
They move in packs. Do a big job for weeks or months. Then move on down to the next big job and camp out at the local truck stop there.CraigInReston Thanks this. -
Or Sysco. At one time the oversize staging area south of McMurray became one of their yards.CraigInReston, BigHossVolvo and magoo68 Thank this.
