I like my Garmin. Available in the truck stops (easy to replace IF it is defective) for around $250, and no monthly fees. Use it with certain Garmin GPS models (which you may or may not already have) or use your cell phone or a dedicated tablet. As a "local transfer" device, it isn't connected to the internet (no back doors into your truck's ECM) and all data is stored locally on your devices (where YOU can control who has access to it) not some 3rd party server on the web or in the cloud.
Hulld and AlexanderK Thank this. -
So you don't need Internet connection for Garmin ELD? What if officer what's your logs to his email?

Keep truckin isnt bad, simple to install, I think it's around 250 to purchase the little box. Runs off a app on any device. It needs the internet at some point during the day. It's also super simple to edit stuff.
jt road hammer and bryan21384 Thank this. -
It is a local transfer device, and therefore not required to be able to email the logs on its own. To transfer logs, the officer needs to supply a secure USB drive or bluetooth device of his own. If he doesn't, that isn't YOUR problem. The ELD is compliant with the regs as a local transfer device.
Only telematic devices are required to be able to email your logs through your own network.Attached Files:

Good to know. Does app allow to print logs to the network printer though? I don't like idea of storing my data on someone else's server (they will use all this data some day and I don't want to be part of that package), and at the same time wouldn't want to explain to Leo that's his problem he doesn't have thumb drive.

No, but when you save them, they save as html files. I'd use my home PC to print-to-file to save them as a pdf, and then use a pdf editor to compile a weeks worth of logs into 1 file to send to the carrier. If you ARE the carrier, you can skip all of that and just save the html files. If you happen to have a mobile printer that you can use with your device, I guess you could print them out, but there is NO requirement to have the ability to print off an ELD. The pdf I attached in my previous post explains the process of transferring data. That's what is required by the regs. If the officer doesn't have the necessary equipment to transfer your data, that does not change the fact that your device IS compliant. Just because most of the big name ELD's are telematic and can email the logs doesn't mean ALL ELD's must have that capability.

Thanks a lot for the explanation.

I second KeepTruckin. If you register your email, you'll get invites to seminars for IFTA and other tutorials

You "tap into" the WiFi Signal at the scale house. Or, they are then forced to use "local transfer" i.e. Encrypted USB or Bluetooth.jt road hammer and AlexanderK Thank this.
