Thats pretty much what my brother is saying about his terminal, Big Dog. Hes pretty new to driving, but hes catching on real quick. Hes saying UPS wont come clean with the actual numbers etc. Im glad Im doing what I do. Fortunately Im paid well, and dont have the union to worry about. Been there done that.

Hell yeah. Dont take long to catch on to this bull. They dont give a crap about the drivers. Its all about the bottom line.

I thought one of the main sticking points was a two tier wage scale?

Ive tried browsing the parcel and freight contracts and not seeing it.

Two tier IS one of the main sticking points. A lot of senior guys at my terminal absolutely do not want the two tier because it can divide the workers. But the company and union leadership has gotten what it wanted, and has sufficiently scared the drivers enough to get the yes votes IMO. Plus, theyre making it so the drivers have to travel to the hall to vote, where as before in the first vote we were able to do it electronically over the internet.

Same with the feeder jobs in my area. They were hiring 50 guys off the street for permanent positions back in late summer. Anybody coming on now is for seasonal.

Keep in mind that even though were all under UPS, small pack/feeder and freight are separate companies with separate labor contracts.

well, good luck to everyone. I'm happy at my smallish regional with private ownership. He treats us pretty well.

I followed this for awhile on the internet. My take was the crux of the matter was that the new contract did not receive a majority vote. But the B.A.'s and Rep's went ahead and ratified it, citing a clause that not enough of the members voted, giving the B.A.'s authority to make the decision.

Well then a lot of people freaked out. I hope they strike.

Many of those shops, from what I've seen. have the stewards in their pockets. So it's entirely up to the general membership to take the bull by the horns IMHO.

The company did its job in scaring the S out of the drivers. If people didnt live beyond their means, and had a little cushion for themselves, we'd be able to battle this better.
