Brake Job Cost

used too, Mutual Wheel is good for brake parts if you want to do your own. These days I prefer to have things like that done while I'm stuck waiting somewhere, doesn't pay to take time off at home really. plus I'm super, super lazy.

 

Glad to see I'm in good company. Actually, I always figured I work hard enough to break the truck. Let someone else fix it. But. lazy definitely works for me too.

 

I'm too #### cheap to pay somebody else to do a job I'm perfectly capable of doing myself. Heck, most of the time when I buy tires, I'll drive my pickup to the tire shop to pick 'em up, take 'em home, and mount 'em up myself. There's a certain pride in doing the job yourself and knowing it is done right, too. Is the guy mounting your brakes a new-hire that is performing his very first brake job? I've been through shops before to have the company's trailer worked on where I had more experience turning wrenches than the kid doing the work...kinda sad when they are supposed to be the mechanic and the driver is having to walk them through the job and loan them proper tools....but sometimes that is what you get. It is also why I won't allow ANYONE else to work on my truck unless they are OK with me in the bay watching what they are doing.

 

I can't tell you guys how much the reliability of my truck has increased since I started doing all my own work.

On my trailer I had a brake job done in 2009. It lasted less than 18 months because the s-cams and bushings were incredibly worn. They didn't check them. The trailer braked like crap too. I redid everything in January and now it brakes like a dream. So stable and even.

 

How much does it cost to replace the bearing and caliper on the passenger side of a c6500 to kick dump truck

It is good information but it's kind of dated now. Most of the posts are from 2012 and prices since then have gone up.

Maybe some of the members will chime in with recent costs and times.

 

I just priced premium new Meritor 4707 shoes (painted guaranteed not to rust jack and crack) $65.00 no core

 

I usually do my own work in the parking lot. Takes me 5 minutes. I carry all the tools I need - jacks, impact, sockets, tire tools, etc. When I do shoes and drums I will put on new rims, tires, paint the trailer and replace all the lights on the back you know “since I am there anyway.”

In December of 2018 for 4 drums and 4 shoes
( Drive axles ) I paid $1015.90 for the parts and $180.00 to have everything installed.

I have wider shoes on this truck which are referred to as "Mountain Brakes" which generally are a little more expensive..
