1) My run got cancelled again last night, and is more than likely to be cancelled the rest of the week. This does not concern me too much as i have contacted my weekend people and will likely be doing something there.
2) i am very tired of thinking about all this, (Think of all the energy we spent on it.), so this will likely be my last post on this thread. If for some reason i'm longer working at upsF, then i'll be working somewhere else. Hell, i might even join Mike at GFS, you never know...........
So, i'd like to close with two thoughts:
3) Concerning the corporate b.s., letter:
A company can (and does) say whatever it wants. Remember, it's actions, not words. Remember when GM said Pontiac is still around and IS NOT going anywhere. And then a few weeks later, Pontiac is GONE. (You can thank the Obama administration for that one, BTW.)
4) In my specific case, where else can you make 98K (let's say 100K), touch absolutely no freight---just drop and hook, AND be home everyday, AND have the weekends off, AND have very good benefits (not too many other companies can match them), just sitting listening to podcasts, music, eating, drinking and just chilling really? i don't know of too many places you can do all that AND be home everyday/weekends off.
Now, these last two statements, #3 and #4, in no way imply that i will vote yes, vote no, or vote at all.

I think #4 is why UPS is drawing a hard line. They are overpaying for jobs drivers would and are doing elsewhere in the industry for half that money, and who aren't unionized & therefore dont operate under the threat of a strike.

Yeah it's all about bigger profits, not the betterment of people.

Thats bull. I make 17.70 an hour to drive trash equipment and bust my butt moving their freight and making them money. The amount of revenue and profit that ups makes off of my meager wages for the first few years more then makes up for me voting no.
And guys might make 90k a year, but they are literally working 60+ hours a week with no real hometime except for the weekends since we work all day long when our families are at home doing fun stuff together. Id rather be otr sitting in a cushy chair all day holding a steering wheel and not touching ANY freight. -
So you get a few days to picket the locked gate.
Enjoy the down time and get to know some new people you never see. Who knows you may learn a thing or two ?

we’re literally next door to a upsf terminal. i have been lurking in this thread since inception. there were a lot less vehicles in their employee parking area last night.

I might depending on what opportunities come up in the next week. My point was to say that even though our guys make 80-90k a year, it requires long hours and physical work. Not very many people are cut out for ltl work, whereas many people can do a otr job. Ltl is high pressure, under the gun, knowing how to operate your equipment, and breaking your back sometimes to get the delivery off the truck. Its not an easy job.Bob Dobalina and Mike2633 Thank this.
