Which Garmin could this be?

Does anyone know if the NUVI 750 has trucking directions?

 

Well I was on Long Island,NY and as you know trucks are not allowed on the parkways there so I changed the icon over to truck and it changed the route over to 495

 

If you changed the icon to motorcycle, will it change the route over to the curviest roads?

 

You cannot select icons via mapsource. The "truck" option in mapsource is under routing options. I live in Buffalo and have been playing with Mapsource with my Nuvi 5000 around here for a few weeks. We have a ton of low bridges and more weight restriced streets than I can count. Using the Mapsource truck option and simulating routes around the city it has yet to draw a route down a restricted road. Many times it is far out of the way, but it works.

I would still consult the atlas anyhow though. The GPS is a tool, and it must be used correctly. I personally would not actually drive a big truck on a route that the GPS has made. I was just testing it out. I would still plan the route with your atlas, then plot the route in mapsource, and send to the GPS. That way you are driving YOUR route, using the GPS to alert you to turns and provide an instant ETA if needed. The time calculations can also be a useful tool for trip planning if you have a unit with speed limits loaded and the traffic reciever.

 

No. But I already have all those routes stored. LOL

 

Maybe it was just coincidence, but my Garmin Nuvi 660 would route me on truck routes when they diverged from the 4-wheeler lanes. Other than that, it would take you down a goat trail if you selected the shortest route.

On a separate note, has anyone use one of the newer models that have lane assist? Does it work pretty good?

 

What is lane assist? I just got a Nuvi 5000 that seems to have everything but I am still learning it. My old quest didn't have half the toys this one does.

::edit:: the 5000 does not have it. The 765T does.

 

I saw the lane assist on the 765t also when I was looking at these on ebay. I just didn't want to lay down the extra hundred for that feature. I'll bet it's nice though for going through some of the cities where it's ".2 keep right, .3 turn left, .5 keep right". Everytime I have to go through Nashville, Tenn on my way south or east I want to shoot myself.

 

What is wrong with studying a map once in a while? Truckers got lost for years by using the simplest of tools: a roadmap and a phone (to call for directions). Why spend the extra money to get lost?
