My experience at holland enterprises

If you end up leaving Holland at some point do they help get you back toward your home at all or are you on your own?

 

I doubt they’ll help you get home. Most trucking companies will arrange for you to come to them but they don’t pay for you to go home. There may be a few who do it but it’s rare.

Is it incumbent upon a company to pay for an ex employee to get home? Why?

If you owned a business and had hundreds of employees and one or two or even 4 decide; for whatever reason, that they no longer wanted to work there, would you pay their way home?

 

Because the companies are rich?

 

On your own.

 

Every company I ever worked for always at least supplied a bus ticket to get you home. However I have never worked for like Holland who is 1800 miles from my home. Which for most people would have a hard time getting back home from with all their possessions.

 

I've made a note to self, never get another job which requires me to travel half way across the country for a job.

 

Other than sudden emergencies that require you to leave on short notice, many departures are planned and coordinated. I know I’ll be quitting a company in the coming weeks, so I plan my exit. I have a flight booked and I’ll call an Uber to pick me up from the terminal, my gear is already at the house because I left it there on my last home time. I take only what I need with me. I don’t do “Helpless and Homless” if I can’t afford to sustain myself out in the world then long distance employment is out of the question. I’ll stay home and work for a company nearby.

My record is spotless so I can pretty much get a trucking job anywhere. So if the company I’m with doesn’t work out then I’ll go to work for a company not far from the company I’m leaving. In some cases I’ll drive my SUV to the company, that way I have Independence and I’m not so vulnerable. I also am able to stack my money when I work somewhere. I have very little expenses and zero overhead (I say it’s zero because while it costs money to live out here it also costs money to live at home. You gotta eat whether you’re home or on the road, living is not over head) so the bulk of my pay goes to me. I live in the truck. But that’s just me everybody’s situation is different

 

It's real simple... keep one. Credit card on you with enough funds on it to be able to rent a car if need be. It's call being prepared

 

If you give them enough notice they’d probably arrange for you to stop at home where you could unload most of your stuff then run a couple (or few?) weeks getting back to the yard. Or you can just do what I did when I left, get a ride to the airport and get a rental car. Cost me $70 for the car to get back to Chicago. Probably would cost more to get to where you need to go but it sure beats Amtrak and greyhound plus you can load all your stuff up. I got to test drive the infinity QX60 too lol fun SUV

 

Then you can pick that your own schedule get back home... It'll be a cold day in h*** before I ever step foot On a greyhound bus again
