Would you feel horrible while scraping the snow or dirt off while waiting for the cops to show up and write the report?

Drove from Denver to Alb. on Sunday in a blizzard, I'm not even positive my plate is still attached after all that snow.

If they can’t read it, that’s reason for a quick roadside inspection. Better to take 10 seconds to clean it, than sit on the side for up to an hour shoving paperwork around. Time is money.

If I’m stopped anyway, and I’m not going back into a storm with snow covered roads then I’ll wipe it off. I actually did just that last week. Stopped to check my load, wiped off the lights and plate. If it’s still snowing then wiping things off is futile. I’ve never been harassed for a covered plate. In the winter around here it’s just how it is. If the cops want to stop you for something they’ll just use the plate as an excuse, and DOT guys don’t need a reason. Having visible lights is far more important, and the LEDs aren’t good at keeping snow melted off the lenses. I’d say it’s good enough reason to not use them in spots where lights are required. It would be tragic to get rear ended by someone because they couldn’t see the lights through snow buildup during a storm at night.

x1Heavy, Oxbow, Lepton1 and 1 other person Thank this.
