I just saw a post for Schneider hiring for an apprenticeship class. I walk in with my permit from my state, take 4 weeks of classes and then test.
My questions are has anyone taken this route to become a driver? What was the "payback" requirements?
I'm leaning towards this method because every other company I've researched want a year of ovr with very little home time. I need to be home at least every weekend.
Starting to wonder if its just a hoop dream to be schooled and then be home every night or weekend?

NTB Trucking has the same program and probably be home most weekends and in some cases, through the week. You must live in the hiring area for NTB Trucking.
    Where is your location?
If you go with Schneider Bulk there's a good chance of being home on weekends. Same with Schneider Intermodal. Ask about those two divisions.

I'm central to Cincinnati, Columbus and Dayton. I can be at either one in 45 minutes.

you may want to look into running walmart out of Washington courthouse for SNI. They'll run ya out of your 70, but its steady miles and home for 34 at least weekly. Better payong than most too.

@SingingWolf ran it from another loction but can give a recent rundown of it.

Thanks for the advise. I've heard that the folks that run out of Wal-Mart Distribution are all around pleased with their job and the pay.

Hey Sam, I just finished the Schneider apprenticeship in Indianapolis 3 weeks ago and there is no payback or contract to sign. The only drawback is they only train in automatics so you get a restricted license. You do 2 weeks in class room and yard then go 2 weeks otr with your TE and then test out! They send you home to get your license in your home state and if you decide you want to stay with Schneider they have a truck waiting for you when you return.

There are dedicated accounts with all major carriers and some smaller carrier too that can at least get you home weekly. Some do better than that these days and may even get you by the house (maybe an hour or maybe a DOT break depending on the trip and your hours) a few times a week also.

Most companies that sponsor any kind of CDL training will want some commitment in exchange - and that is only fair. It may be a few months to about a year or so. While you put that time in you are continuing to learn and develop your skills - and build your own resume ...

Thank you for your reply, I just applied and will be conferencing with a recruiter on Friday. I'm aware of the restriction, however, I have a new injury that clutching aggravates; So, I'm fine with the automatics. Overall, were you pleased with the automatic and training. I do have my CLP.

Lastly, were you prepared to take your exam in your home state?
