well too, do not forget, we have industrial parks all across the country, where only the R/R cross is there, not any lights...some are also labeled, "ABANDONED" and the tracks are still there......so something needs to be at the abandoned tracks as well, then too also remember that Google/GPS MUST BE UPDATED to show if those tracks were removed from the area......and there is only a small dirt road now, leading in both directions, where the tracks used to be.

where i work, (the D/C center), there are 2 such abandoned R/R tracks, that are not in the road, but on either side of the R/R cross over.......

    SteerTire Thanks this.

That’s exactly why I say we shouldn’t be worried ;) It’s coming, it just won’t catch anyone over 50. With the exception of a few local drivers.

I actually see this being used at warehouses first. Replacing the yard jockeys.

I keep praying for smart forklifts and docks. So we can eliminate half the lumpers, if not all ;)

    Dear OP author,

I’ll say this as respectfully as I can.

You don’t know what the hell you’re talking about.

well, if you were to go to any automotive assembly plant, what do they have running all around..??? robotic "trucks", carrying the engines, gas tanks, etc,etc...they "follow" a strip in the floor.....

maybe a yard jockey application this could work, but in areas of snows, they would need to keep on top of snow plowing.......

i have been to a few cigarette manufactures down south...what do they have...?? pallets of cigarettes following a conveyor system to the loading docks, to the particular doors......

so yeah, anything can be done,.,,,,, now comes the question...."at what cost to the labor force"...????

Watch the Discover Channel episode that follows the plows on Donner. :) Those guys can plow it total white out conditions.

There are magnets in the roadbed. They use those for navigation during extreme conditions. Wouldn’t be to difficult to apply self driving tech there.

you are comparing state/federal monies to a warehouse, that pay's minimum wages...regarding snow removal..

I see autonomous trucks being used in road trains, long before any other application is feasable.

I see transponders in all vehicles allowing communication among all vehicles with the onboard computers coordinating the interaction between the moving vehicles. The tech exists now so all that is lacking is the regulation to make it happen. Once the 5G is up and running this will happen quickly. Vehicles will know a train is coming because the train will have a transponder onboard communicating with the system.

yes, i saw that oo, but transponders (or something like that) would have to be installed at may R/R crossings, be they live or adabnoded, or limited use, such as at many factories and industrial parks.
