HEy guys,
What would be the best way to get contacts for shippers/receivers? I know conventional method is to yellowpage them or from some random online database. But that is a lot of coldcalling, especially today when only few companies are operating. I would like to find a way to go directly with them, vs through a broker. Brokers have taken advantage of todays economy and are keeping a huge chunk of change for the loads they broker out. Please help
How to Get shippers/receivers

That is an excellent way to get your company sued.
There is a 'back solictation clause' in every Broker-Carrier contract (which your company signed before taking the load) that prohibits doing exactly what you are doing. Once you do a load for a shipper or receiver through a broker, that shipper and receiver are off limits to your company in the future, unless you can prove that you have a prior business relationship with that company.
This is why most carriers hate to take brokered loads from their home area (outbound). It limits their shipper pool. Many brokers are cheap, crooked, slimy and sometimes stupid, but they are not that stupid. They wouldn't be in business for long if they didn't protect their shippers.
Sorry, no broker is going to pay you for the priviledge of giving you a lead on an account. Life just isn't that easy. lostNfound is right, there are no shortcuts. You have to pound the pavement or hire a salesman away from another company who already has accounts.Dark Wolf, luvtheroad, Shep Shiloh and 1 other person Thank this. -
If you have to ask here , you'll never succeed at it . You have to have salesmanship . Just getting a contact isn't enough . You have to convince them to give you their business .luvtheroad Thanks this.

Fair enough. Sorry I already quoted your deleted post, so it is out there for people to read. If you want to try to get the mods to delete the whole thread and start over, I'm ok with that.

If you edit your post you can delete the quote yourself . I do it often to reduce quotes to the particular part I am responding to .

Let it stand, I learned something new.

I believe upon geetting a hold of a shipper, I will find a way to get his business. So far, however, I have had the luck of reaching a lot of companies that either already have a contract with a large company, that does not expire for sometime, or they are simply operating too slow to have much business. I need another method of getting a hold of them. Finding them. I have tried yellowpages and a few databases with little luck. And I could do the back-soliciting, as mentioned above, but, as also mentioned, it just does not seem worth the risk.
So my real question, anyone recommend another database of shippers? -
You could try REAL TIME FREIGHT as they are not a broker board-unfortunately i haven't been to succesful with it only having 2 trucks and trailers.
