you have to have a criminal back ground check, finger prints done to make sure you are not any kind of threat. Sooner or later everyone will have to have one. Just another way for them to make money off us.
Baack Thanks this. -
true but there will be those that will not or can not get the cards and there should be a couple of extra loads out there for the rest of us
-
I think you meant they mailed your notification that the card is in. You have to pick it up in person, scan your finger, pick a PIN # and then they pit it all in the computer and activate it.Doesn't take over 15 min.

I had my TWIC since early last year.
They just started asking for it in Wilmington,NC in November 2008.
Then if you come to the port without a twic, they find you an escort to bring you into the port.
What a waste of time and money to completely bypass all security in place to let an unsearched vehicle in with an escort.
It was just another tax assessed to truck drivers. -
Where do you go to get a twic card?

On the 2nd page of this thread there is a link to the TWIC website,

That was pretty quick, I haven't received an email yet, but when I checked my status online it said my card had been issued and mailed. It only took two days. They quoted me six to eight weeks. Hopefully, this isn't an error and I'll be able to pick it up early next week.

I just heard tonite that some cards issued in Galveston aren't being accepted at other ports due to some oddity in the background check and that some holders had to reapply in another port. Anybody have any info? I looked at mine and it isn't government issued just says issued under the authority of DHS. I'd hate to have paid green for something I just may not end up needing and then find out it's useless to boot.
BTW if you piggyback on the hazmat endorsement, both expire together.
Thanks in advance for any input

I enrolled on 2/23 and picked my card up 3/6, a week and four days, not too bad.
