This has always puzzled me about fuel discounts. All the big truckstops like TA ,Petro etc jack their fuel prices up $.40 to $.50 a gallon or higher more than anyone else in the area they are in and then give these discounts to companies and they jump for joy. I can see if it's the only places you fuel ,but the practice is so obvious. I realize it's convenient for companies to fuel at big truck stops,but the jumping for joy over huge discounts has always amazed me ,are there other perks that make it worthwhile . yes when rate should be more like $2.50 a mile after it is all said and done.

Showers. And the purple unicorn stuff, ginger bread house, doll house, jump rope I got the grand daughter for Christmas with my points.
And it's just better fuel. And it's winterized.
And with my JFJ discount it's typically 20 cents cheaper than the stand alone trash fuel that will roast the fuel system.Last edited: Nov 29, 2018

The first part of your sentence is imho a big part of the problem. I won’t elaborate because I am not good at explaining my thoughts. Also you will more by figuring out things on your own.
To all of you who have hung in here I say thanking for trying to help people. I would have been frustrated to death after about the 10th to 12th post. I see your point why it works for you. We use a corporate American Express for all expenses ,repairs ,fuel etc.
I never fuel at big truck stops . I use smaller reputable chains . Never had a problem with fuel except for 1 .A Citgo on route 84 that had to be getting water in they're fuel . I don't think it was the fuel, I knew they're supplier and source and other stations using them didn't have a problem. When it's really cold I don't trust anyone with
Winterizing , I use Power Service diesel conditioner. Really
Super cold and I'll put a few gallons of clear Kerosene in the Tanks if the truck is sitting over the weekend. I've been told it's not a good idea to use kerosene in DEF trucks for some reason. We don't have that problem anymore we don't run anything past 2007 anymore ,we had too many problems with DEF equipped trucks and won't ever go back .RubyEagle and whoopNride Thank this. -

I guess I'm just saying that you should know what your costs per mile are, so you can define "cheap freight" for yourself. If your costs are $2 per mile, maybe you don't want to haul anything under $2.50 just to stay profitable. I'm definitely not suggesting anyone should haul anything at cost to keep the wheels turning. But what profit threshold needs to be reached before the load is acceptable and not “cheap freight”? Our expenses are about 80 cpm so is $1.20/mile good?LtlAnonymous Thanks this.
