Same thing happened in the 70s this time it was the Air Force. The way I heard it was a guy just got home from tech school and discovered his girl friend had moved. He had a cousin close to his size and weight and they switched IDs. The OSI got involved after a while. The guy once he got to Edwards AFB reported his ID was missing and got a new one. However during some required dental exam the dentist discovered some things were strange and the OSI got in it. The original guy was found tossed out after a year in jail. The cousin was handed over to the Marshals and I never heard what happened.

The guy I referenced had 12 years in the Navy when I met him. He trusted me enough to let me know his situation and knew I would never snitch on him. When he became a US Citizen he changed his name back to his original name. He was from Philippines and eventually married his old girlfriend and raised a family.paul_4lp Thanks this.

Because I make it a point to never say never in regard to this kind of stuff. I will say today it is very close to totally impossible outside of (real) twins to do this. Many years ago when a Military critter did a change of station they literally carried their 'jackets" with them in a large envelope. Today with most of this information computerized and stored you are not doing this much anymore. This is a subject that has always intrigued me. I was friends with a guy that worked at (CBPO) this was basically the base personnel office. I asked him about doing this once. He said there were several forms that had to be changed. It was even then hard to change the SSAN because it was part of the pay records. In reality over the years there are no telling how many people have done this. Before computers it was easy.

Some of us did brig time while on active duty. One friend of mine was sent back to the states in handcuffs to be processed out of the military in California. He saw an old friend working in the processing office doing the discharges. Because they were friends, the guy stripped his service record of anything negative, then filled out reenlistment papers for 6 more years. He stuck the papers in front of an Ensign that was up to his neck in paperwork and couldn't care less what he was signing. So, my friend got another 6 years of active duty and an eventual honorable discharge.
Yep, they were the good old days in my opinion. No political correctness to deal with and could have fun in ports without it ruining a career just because the Shore Patrol brought you back to the ship in handcuffs. Within a few days, it was all forgiven and forgotten, in most cases.paul_4lp Thanks this. -
2 years ago I had some young and dumb PA do my physical. I am not a fat guy but my neck is big. Dude told me that on my next physical he would have to recommend me for a sleep study if my neck was still 14.5". Screw him. I found a chiropractor this year and he gave me another 2 years and said nothing about my neck size. These health clinics are all part of a racket. I have yet to meet a guy who went through a sleep study and was found to NOT have sleep apnea. What a crooked world we live in.

I believe the FMCSA should force ALL MEs and ALL carriers to totally divest themselves from having any interest in sleep labs and CPAP sales, or with anybody that does.
Now with the above said I am aware many drivers have a legit diagnosis of sleep apnea. Further there are drivers that need CPAPs that can't afford them. A method can be found that helps get these drivers a CPAP. However as @HotH2o stated above. There are too many MEs doing this crap. They point to NONE EXISTENT Federal DOT sleep apnea standards. It is time this crap was STOPPED!
