Lowes , home depot, menards all load tail heavy.

Roll stock and scrap are usually all the way up or all the way back to get legal.

PG detergent loads run tail heavy, also some of their rdc loads.

In short, plenty of reasons to run with the tandems back.

His problem wasn't the tightness if the turn, or his tandem setting. It was not identifying that he had run out of room BEFORE he hit.

I had to run the tandems all the way back on a Lowe's load that only had 27K in the box.

 

So you LIKE "curbing" your trailer on a regular basis?

 

I don't curb my tires.
The only reason I can think of that you would make a statement like this , is that your not capable of making turns without curbing ' Your ' tires.
You can't drive so you think no one else can.

 

I go ALOT of places you CANNOT get into with your tandems all the way back. I routinely slide my tandems forward to make it easier to get near the customer them slide them back when I back into the dock. I also spend a lot of time in California where you have no choice.

 

Yes, there are places like that. However legal weights are key first, then running balanced for fuel economy . It may be neccesary to slide up when you are close to the customer, but by no means is that common. I have run thru the Loop in Chicago with the tandems all the way back (puller mechanism broke and I was moving to service). It was a royal pain, but entirely possible IF A DRIVER THINKS AND WATCHES HIS TRAILER.

I love taking new drivers into customers that make you slide at the gate. They've been driving all day with the tandems at a certain setting, now everything is different . For the guys that have been watching the trailer, no problem. For the guys who haven't, we usually have a "teachable moment ".
