I'm out 3 weeks and off 5-6 days with FFE. I dont need the time off, but I take it. Time off is paid anyway. I get to go back to Austin and see what all hippies are up to. Usually nothing, of course.

Just my two cents. And I'm sure you already know this, but if you do attend orientation make sure to complete the drug screen. Not many people leave voluntarily during orientation. But it has been known to happen. An example of this would be, the recruiter tells you you're going to make $0.50 a mile. Then during orientation they tell you you're only going to make 40. Just make sure if you show up complete the drug screen. Otherwise they may put on your DAC refusal to test, and that's never a good thing. Good luck, hang in there you'll do fine

Melton gets better after orientation and after the 3-week trainer truck experience. Your own truck. After 1 year with melton you can move up to a better company. Melton is like a nanny state with cameras on you at all times. They treat you like a number, not like “family” like they say. But they do train you correctly on flatbed. You should go with melton because it’s a good foundation.

You’ll make money running dedicated. But is that your goal?

Dedicated means dedicated. Your down time options are restricted to what that requires.

Vacation time will have to be planned for and covered while your gone.

I’ve never been able to make a dedicated account work. I’m too lazy, and enjoy my time off too much.

You will find your precious 48 hours promised at home losing 16 hours just getting there. Then the phone calls begin 8 hours prior to you are supposed to be out of there.

Finally but not least, you will discover that you lose money sitting home. Half the time you catch up on your sleep so you are not mean to your family. Ultimately nothing gets done other than a bite, squeeze and a hug and gone.
