Is there anyone out there with Detroit Diesel DPF issues. My truck is having nothing but issues and am trying to find others with the same or similar problems.

Thank-you. I drive a pre-emission.

It's the new emissions control in trucks. Regeneration system. We have a 2009 Freightliner Classic Daycab with a Detroit Diesel S60 engine with nothing but problems. Looking for anyone else that might have issues with their engine as well. Neither Detroit nor Freightliner can fix the problem, looking for suggestions/recommendations/solutions. Gorgeous truck but she is a hell child. Want to know if anyone else goes through issues with new trucks.

Our company got all new DPF Freightliner Columbia's starting towards the end of 2007. I think we lost at least 4 drivers due to all the problems they were having and couldn't keep rolling. They were always in the shop. Out of 50 trucks I don't know how many had serious issues but it was a big problem. I kept driving one of the older trucks until another driver quit and I moved into his truck. By then, all the issues had been worked out.
New trucks almost always have issues but the problems our company had with this new fleet were worse than ever and caused a lot of problems including losing drivers.masocata Thanks this. -
DPF traps soot, which is burned off in a process called regeneration. This process may be active or passive, all of the newer emissions engines use them, and they have been troublesome. If regeneration is needed or the computer thinks it's needed and the action doesn't occur, the engine derates or sometimes could shut down.
Active puts some fuel into the DPF to burn out the soot, passive uses the heat from higher power application such as pulling long hills to burn it out, akin to burning the carbon out of an older car or pickup by running it hard for a short period of time.
Reading threads about other engines tells me similar things are happening in most makes and with many different engine combinations. Basically, most trucks are potentially poor running junk, and need some time on the road to find and fix the problems that didn't show up in R&D.masocata Thanks this. -
Thanks for your information. I'm hoping to find someone who might still currently be having these issues. Our truck is a 2009 Freightliner and by far, the bugs have not been worked out. We've had the truck for 8 months and it has been down for over 60 days. They have put a manual regen button into the truck so that when the system needs to be regen'd, have to pull over and wait for it to finish. In the cold weather that we are having it can take up to 3 tries and 4 hours later. This truck bogs, blows black smoke and the stacks are filled with black soot. This is not what we were told when we bought this truck. And let me tell you, Detroit Diesel is no help. We have actually had to get a lawyer involved. Funny enough, there are so many problems with these new engines that Detroit Diesel has put a gag order on all of their employees, and any company (ie Waterous) that deals with fixing these engines, not to talk about the issues.

Are you making sure that you're always using Ultra Low-Sulfur Diesel (ULSD) when you fuel?

DPF's are a problem for owners who work their truck and havew high idle times especially.I belong to another diesel truck enthusiast forum.Glad my rig does not have one!!But it's not quite a semi either..Limited production option LBZ[engine for 2006,Hot Shot rig]for those who are familiar with the diesel engines...
You ought to read some of the posts from the guys way up north about how the DPF and the regen affects their ability to even keep the truck operable due to the cold temps and having to idle it just to stay warm!!
masocata Thanks this.
