Should I quit my job before or after going to orientation?

I used to work in orientation and training at Prime. Prime will contact all employers from the past three years and they will require you to resign from your position at the other place once they find out you haven't already. This will happen on the first or second day of orientation during your file review. I guess you could keep the position to make sure you like what you're seeing up until that point though.

I went through Prime's CDL program as well. I enjoyed my experience and definitely recommend it as opposed to the alternatives.

 

There are no guarantee's when it comes to this topic. No one size fits all solutions. The OPs largest problem is 391.23 at some point an inquiry to the current employer is going to be made, can't hide it. After this inquiry is made what happens next is up to that current employer. People sometimes forget that one thing being done during orientation is that driver qualification file is being made. Since this person does not have a CDL this is only a three-year history MANDATED! Another problem is the OP is NOT going to get a CDL in a week. Best case is 3 weeks. Somebody has sold the OP a bill of goods! With the exception of a leave of absence, NOBODY is going to be able to walk into a school then do orientation without quitting your job first. Then once that MANDATED job inquiry lands somebody is going to be asking questions.

My best advice to OP is STOP what you are doing. You can't BS your way through this. Make up your mind. You are either going 100% into this process, or you are not!

 

Yeah but Prime isn't going to DQ him or anything for it. They're just going to tell him he needs to resign before they move forward.

 

Just do what you are planning to do and forget the " what ifs"......you are going to be burdened enough with the task at hand at prime.....learning.....its pretty involved, and you shouldnt retain any anxiety over the small sh[!$........just go for it......

 

And who cares who "finds out"......? Let 'em.......

 

Advice from someone with serveral year of management experience. Quit your job. Do so in writing. Write them a well written letter be sure to thank them, tell them how much you regret leaving and much you appreciated them as your employer even if you didn't. When you leave on good terms it's easier to get your job back should need be.
