I was wrong. E-logs save lives

As long as he doesn't hit somebody I don't care if he drives 40 days straight, if he hits somebody I don't want laws saying how long you can drive. This is supposed to be a free country, you're supposed to be a responsible adult and know when you, personally, are tired, if you want a government to tell you how to live every aspect of your life, why don't you go live somewhere that wasn't literally founded on telling government to f off.

 

Poor Greg just can’t catch a break. Whatever he does someone’s unhappy. I see Greg taking a 20 minute power nap on entrance ramp, which turns into a 3 hr slumped over the wheel neck ache. Meanwhile DOT wakes him up.His neck hurting and feet swollen He tries to be polite while being read the riot act. Meanwhile Greg curses the day he decided to be a Truckdriver. Greg calls home explaining hrs been put out of service because his logbook shows he’s still at the Pilot 30 miles away. Meanwhile his in laws whisper about Greg having another family in another Town.

 

Since when are that many people that responsible?
Truck drivers being a prime example.

Not only the drivers, but the people in the trucking industry in general - including the shippers/receivers.

Push as hard as you can to make the miles, make the schedule. And it is that way, for the most part, throughout the industry.


If YOU want to avoid government intervention, then something has to change deep down in the thinking of all involved in this industry.


Shippers/receivers that demand a very tight schedule, or take several hours for a simple load/unload put all drivers at risk of violating HOS or driving while fatigued.
Sales people and planners that go along with those schedules just compound the problem, as do driver managers that try to push the drivers into unsafe conditions.

And drivers that simply won't say NO! to that kind of planning, because they have no backbone or common sense.

 

Greg never stops to shower and is really rank.

 

Change the typical pay structure. Compensation for loading at first hour minimum loading fee applies increasing rate each hour. Then when I say “ take your time” I’ll really mean it,unlike now when I say that.

 

When they start seeing people they know having their lives ruined they'll start being that resposible, all it would take would be all drivers saying when I'm tired I'm stopping, dispatch will figure out they can't plan everything to the minute, anything short of pharmaceutical loads aren't really life and death it doesn't if they're a couple hours late. I guess i havent done any reefer pulling and the little bit of dry van and flatbed I've done wasn't scheduled for load or unload times, when you get there you load, when you get to the other end you unload, first come, first served. Most of what I haul in the hopper i could load and take as long as I want to get there, doesnt matter if its tommorow or two weeks from now. The whole hos thing would be pretty easy to fix if the megas wanted it, if they let sleeper berth be split 5/5 like it used to be, or every hour in sleeper berth you get an hour to drive, or something along those lines.

 

Maybe he just showered last night and your nose is just a little sensitive?
