@tucker, here's one for you. Greg is on paper logs, its Friday evening and he got held up at the shipper. He was going to make it home in time to go to a farming auction that has incredible once in a liftetime deals.

To complicate matters, he gets held up in a backup. He will fall 50 miles short of making it home, and to top it off he is out of Pabst Blue Ribbon beer and the nearest place that has it is 50 miles away and quickly running out..

Does Greg forgo the HOS and drive the 50 extra miles to get auctiion deals of a lifetime and an ample supply of PBR?

I’m confused. First you seem to say any idiot can sort of drive a truck. But then you say hiring idiots is not the answer. I assume you’re addressing the problem of high crash rates?

What is the answer then? From what I can determine, just as many old hands are crashing as new[er] drivers.

    No.
Greg should take a 8 hour sleeper berth and then drive home and go to the auction with a couple of real beers, like Bud or Yuengling Black and Tan

That's cause he wants to get to that 19 year old girlfriend would be my guess.

There's also the possibility that Greg not only has a 19 year old girlfriend, but he goes to Washington alot, and is visited often by wives of lonely mega carrier drivers.

Problem, auction ends an hour before he would get there and the ONLY beer is 50 miles away. Its quickly being bought by Crete drivers who are stuck taking there 34 one hour from home with no Uber, Lyft or taxi service around.

Bad news for Greg, he decided to drive home even though he was out of hours and a drunk driver crossed the median and hit Greg's truck.
While recovering in the hospital the drunk saw a commercial for The Hammer and how he has won over a billion dollars for his clients.
    So he called.
And The Hammer took the case.
The Hammer noticed Greg drives a 1997 FLD and has paper logs.
The Hammer compared Greg's log book with his cell phone records and his Pilot card purchases.
    Nothing matched.
The jury awarded the drunk 27 million dollars and the county prosecuter is filing charges against Greg for HOS violations, no insurance company will insure Greg.
    Greg now works at McDonalds

    Rideandrepair and dwells40 Thank this.
