Wholeheartedly agree. OOIDA didn't really make themselves sound educated. They made themselves sound like whiny drivers that don't like change. The privacy argument was terribly weak. Cost argument was terribly weak. There was no way to convince ATA that paper was necessary other than to have "creative logging."
I was wrong. E-logs save lives

Out of hours only 100 miles from home last night. The ELD got me ! I had to stop and park 10 hours. Not a big problem I'll be home today. Drivers talk about running out of hours only 100 or 60 miles from home and blame the ELD. I don't see getting home today as a big deal.
Rideandrepair and tucker Thank this. -
That's really bad Shogun...….but really good too!4mer trucker, PoleCrusher and shogun Thank this.

Having been involved in lawsuits before, it’s not just sue someone and get paid. $250/hr billable hours, years of litigation, depositions, arbitration etc makes you really be thorough, hence the questionnaire, LOL.4mer trucker and Oxbow Thank this.

IFTA was mentioned a couple pages ago. I want to point out the AOBRD and ELD have nothing at all to do with IFTA reporting. There may be additional modules available from the device manufacturer to allow tracking IFTA/IRP miles, but it is solely at the discretion of the carrier to implement those items and pay an additional fee. The only 'mandated' functions of the ELD are recording of HOS just the same as you would do on paper. Carriers that monitor driver location, use messaging, routing, etc, are using featured added on the the basic unit. None of those items are required in any way, but many carriers see them as providing benefits, and in general the larger the carrier the more the see they benefit. Essentially the megas want those features the most, easier to keep track of their trucks and drivers who would never otherwise communicate, if they even speak english.
And from what I see, even with all this technology, the mega driver can still get sent out on a trailer search to multiple locations to find an empty because no one really knows where the trailers are, that's just amazing.rank Thanks this. -
We covered that Lept......my assertion was that most/all fleets had converted early and only “outlaws” were left on paper in 2017Lepton1 Thanks this.

[QUOTE="bryan21384, post: 8186003, member: Cost argument was terribly weak."[/QUOTE]
How is the cost argument weak? I was left with three choices:
1. Buy a VDO Roadlog at a cost of $800/truck
2. Hire office staff to look after the DOT requests for paper
3. Fire all my senior drivers that are unable to adapt to the new tech And replace them with tech savvy inexperienced drivers, thereby incurring increased insurance costs and severance packages.
It is apparent that you are ignorant of the situationRideandrepair, 4mer trucker and Oxbow Thank this. -
As some others have pointed out HOS is not really the real problem. Just a extremely inconvenient symptom of the disease. 10 years from now seats will have built in anal probes and drivers will be on here talking about the good ole days of elds.
The real fight should be in new hire qualifications and training. Even the general public would be on our side. Drivers are the only ones who understand how archaic and idiotic the Hos rules can be. No one else cares or even understands what we are talking about.TripleSix, poppapump1332, Rideandrepair and 3 others Thank this.
