Hey gang.
Wanted to circle back with an update.
Bought my truck, get ready for this.... a 2014 KW T680 With.... Paccar MX-13!
Boy do I learn the hard way lol!!
I can’t tell you how many people (mostly my Russian trucker friends with their VNL D13 junk, ok a workhorse but man does the ride suck!!!) told me to stear clear of it, but I am a stubborn bull!
I did not get my authority right away. I am leased on to a friends company with about 50 trucks who do dry vans.
I see the some flaws in my original post and the math/questions that I asked. CPM is indeed an outdated/not the most appropriate means of measure. Gross/week is something that suits me better.
In any case some “numbers”
My truck payment is $1600
Bobtail insurance is $200 a month (still don’t know how I got it that low)
Trailer rent $230 a week (with maintance included, 2017 and newer Great Dane with tire inflation dry can)
Trailer and cargo insurance is $200 a week.
And about $50-$75 in misc stuff like ELD and ifta a month.
The prices have been up and down on dry van so it’s hard to say how much I gross a week but $6k average is a solid number. This is before the 10% company cut and fuel.
All in all I am glad I got into my own rig. All the people saying “you should really drive for a few more years” I simply don’t understand your logic. I’ve driven most types of equipment for 4 years. What exactly will I discover in another year as a company driver?? Absolutely nothing. All the unknowns will answer themselves in the first 6 month of ownership and you can grow from there.
All the people that told me if you think you’re ready than do it, thank you. It’s this type of attitude that keeps the worlds spinning .
Best time to get a truck huh?

Thanks for the update. Keep us posted on how things are going, especially six months and a year from now.
Good luck. -
Good luck !

For bobtail insurance ? Nah

That's one heck of a starter truck. Best of luck to you.

It certainly gets compliments but it is nicely speced. Very clean too. Whoever drove it was unlikely a rookie and I am the second owner. If I can get two decent years out of it I will be satisfied.
