Just paid the bill. $701 for the IShift and $464 for the rear ends.

How can they void warranty? What if you changed the fluid yourself?
-
Its 5 years from the date of service or 750 k wherever comes first.

If the oil change isn't done at a dealership with a record or done at a shop where you have a record of the oil change being done. If you do it yourself no record of it being done. The transmission oil change must be done before or at 500,000 miles (800,000 kilometers) or the I shift transmission warranty is voided by volvo. I have had mine changed earlier at a volvo dealership to make sure that I did not void the warranty. As for Front and Rear diffs meritor has it as being changed every 250,000 miles or 400,000 k if I remember it correctly(have to check their website). I talked to the Service manager at the Volvo shop I use and he has seen more than a few warranty repairs refused by Volvo because of the transmission oil change not being done. New transmission is about 25000, cost of oil change about 500.

I have two trucks. One with a Eaton 10 speed and one with a Eaton 13 speed. I change the oil in the transmission every spring no matter what mileage they have gone through since last change. The recommend manufacturers oil changes are recommended because they make and sell their products. Faster they wear out the more money they make on selling new or remanufactured!

Another thing is I replace the air compressor fillter also. With the Ishift transmission being more reliant on air acutators I would think it would be more sensible.

Do you mean the air dryer filter?

They are manual transmissions. The I shift uses a synthetic oil, it is not needed to change it that often and a waste of money. But if your I shift transmission is older and working well it might be a good idea to change it earlier. The Ishift transmission mechanic I spoke says that it is better to do the change a little faster than what Volvo says.
