I used to run Hotshot loads for a friend who's transport business toke off. He then had to switch from running Duallys and goosenecks to running tractors and trailers. with me not having a CDL "yet" (am currently studying for) I have taken a job as a hotshot driver picking up cars for a local salvage yard. I'm driving their dually and two car trailer, running on an ELD picking up cars in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana etc. and bring them back to Ohio. I get No per diem or expenses and have to sleep in the truck. DOES ANYONE know what a fair wage should be. Or how much I should be making. Please help me lol...

Just want to know what I should be making per mile/per hour, being that I get no per diem or benefits and sleep in the truck.

I was told one thing before I started working for this person, he made it sound like a good opportunity to make a decent income and a long-term career. I know I should be making more than what I am. my wife was livid when we found out what I made for going to Texas then Louisiana and back home to Ohio.

Maybe you should be livid back at your wife because of your efforts to secure a living wage when she can not work.

I don't know about the pay for such work, but your wife should not be on your ### about it when you are doing your best.

Perhaps I should have explained that a little better. my wife is always happy with everything I do, and she is very supportive in all I do. she was just unhappy with what I had made. I've been on 3 over the road runs totaling around 6,000 MI and I've brought home $807 so far after taxes since December 6th.

Hotshot or full size truck I think you should have brought home at least twice that much. How is he paying you? Mileage? %?

How did you take a job without knowing the pay?

Also, if you're currently running a truck/trailer setup that has a gvwr of over 26k lbs without a cdl, its not legal.

Does the truck you're running have a name and dot # on the side?

What is your pay based on? My initial reaction is that he’s taking advantage of you because of your lack of a CDL. He probably feels as if you don’t have any other options for a driving job. Get your CDL and move on.

Looking at .17/mile, if you're already getting your cdl might as well move on and get .40/mile and a bed
