Passing at slow speeds etiquette?

Ugh,,,another elephant race thread. Just pass them on the shoulder,,,no wait,, don't do that. ( although I've seen 4 wheelers do that) As a driver, you should kind of see that coming. You see 2 freighthaulers tailgating each other, you should know, truck #2 gonna go for it sooner or later. Confucius say,," Stay away from freighthaulers".
Besides, it would be nice if the road was all yours, but it's not. So take your foot out of it and be patient.

 

This is why I much prefer to drive an ungoverned truck. On a sunny day on bone dry roads it helps break suction.

It helps that other driver pull his head out of his ###. I keep on the throttle until he hits his governor or backs out of it.

 

I don't think this is they're butt-hurt so much as they're driving a very weak truck that gets winded on even the slightest of grades like a simple overpass. Also, smart-cruise systems have a tendency to sometimes kick the cruise out if it senses a problem with forward radar. It will will do this with little notice or fanfare.

Also, you'd be surprised how many trucks are out there running at 25% derate power because of various possible issues usually related to poor and lack of upkeep of the DPF system and it's required DEF

 

@Farmerbob1 nailed it. If you drive in such a self centered manner, then you are choosing to drive at close quarters for mile after mile. Why? Is that making YOU or anyone else safer or are you putting yourself and everyone around you at risk?

Let's say you earn $0.50 a mile. If you back out of it to let traffic flow and stay safe, how much distance do you lose? Maybe you lost the equivalent of an entire Dorito.

Wow. That Dorito sure must be important to you.

 

I don't like being beside anyone for long. My truck is variable speed. Go from there.

 

If I may quote Top Gun,,"gutsiest maneuver I ever saw". And they are just lumbering along, like it's ok. I mean, I could see some 100mph truck making shorter work of that maneuver, but people that drive triple digit trucks don't do stuff like that. This video should be sent to 2 companies. Freymiller drivers last trip for that schmoe, I hope. Terrible for the image. Even the 4 wheelers had more sense than that.

 

It is your right as a driver to keep your speed in the slow lane and let FedEx take 20 miles to pass you but as a professional and safe driver it is your duty to slow down a bit to let him pass. A professional driver does not stay in an unsafe position regardless if you are in the right or not.
My humble opinion only.

 

If it will take you more than 96 seconds to pass a vehicle, then maybe you should consider that it may not be a good idea to make that choice right now.

Something that the driver of an overtaking vehicle needs to know. It is your responsibility to ensure you can complete a pass safely.
