Schneider Flex

    I just posted a question on the flatbed section and the result was positive so I figured I would reach out here with a different question.

    New grad at 46 years old. Don’t need to be here, I want to be here. Retired fireman and relatively comfortable around these vehicles.

    To my question.

    I have a conditional offer from Schneider as a Flex driver out of a Walmart distribution center. I have read plenty about the company but am coming up short on the specific position. In my previous post, I did run up against some animus towards the company but nothing specific. Anyone here have first hand knowledge about the position and how it works for you? I am also curious about the unwritten aspect of the position in terms of time required. Schneider recruitment told me that I could work as little as seven days a month but I am curious if this holds true once on board? I have been waiting for five days now to hear from the driver manager of this specific contract as I want to physically visit the property and meet him in person before I commit. I am a little surprised that as many slots as they have open, I haven’t received a call yet. Also, how is the equipment in these positions? I figure I would get the hind tit so to speak, but would love to be pleasantly surprised.

    Flex, you’ll fill in as drivers take off. Running their routes. The longer you stay out, the higher your weekly pay becomes.

    At least that was how it worked a few years ago. However, you’re describing what was called Home Run in the past, or casual.

    For that, you get no beanies. Vacation etc. might be offered insurance. But you’re not going to have a check if you only work one week a month.

    As for your other demands. And they are considered demands. You may be waiting a long time to hear back from them.

    When you say “demands” are you referring to my desire to speak with the driver manager?

    Pretty much, yes.

    That driver manager is busy managing drivers. You want to speak with the terminal manager. So far, you’ve only spoken with a recruiter. And he’s 3 steps removed from that food chain.

    There will be multiple driver managers. Will the one you speak with be yours? Doubtful. So anything that person says, is mute.

    As far as the job goes, and working at Schneider. I would not hesitate to recommend them to a driver just starting out. They maintain their equipment. And they’re no worse than any of the other megas. Probably better IMHO

    Pete, if your looking for part yime, look into Ryder .
    While speaking to a driver business leader seems like the smart thing to do, it's kinda the last thing they want to do.

    Your cdland logbook experience is important when weighing options for you and Schneider(or any prospective employer)

    Our (Schneider) equipment and pay is solid. Doesn't mean it will be clean lol .

    Our trucks are a little slower at 63 but our technology is cutting edge and benefits are great .

    New guys and hard working experienced drivers fit in well here .

    Crybabies, job hoppers, poor communication and super truckers don't last.
