We had 6 of us running last night at 2 A.M. going west..These guys were in stitches listening to my rants and raves..One driver had his video cam ready...We had a ball last night..6 old timers running 75-80...
That is the way it USED to be...........A few drivers keepin each other awake and actually having a conversation that didn't end with *&^%&*$ driver.
AAAAAAAAAAAAaa the good 'ol days

The Connex has gone back to the warrenty shop.It will be fixed for free and returned to me..Over the phone the guy said it sounds like 2 bad blown pills in the Linier.
-

snowman_w900 Thanks this. -
I have a older stryker 497 n I haven't had any problems with it. I can shoot skip really well n I'm running dual browning BR-78 antennas. Mine only gets warm if I rachet jawing for a long period of time at full power. I run it at 50-60w most of the time. I've been wanting to get a connex 4600 for my backup but reading this forum I'm nervous about buying one now
-
Huh I bought a CX-46-T brand spanking new n it worked flawlessly. I was running an old Stryker sr-497-hpc n I won't get rid of my Stryker. It was built in 2006 so yeah it's a good one n I only paid$240.00 for it. I paid $425.00 for my connex. Both are #### good radios
-
I have a 4600 that works awsome, only other stock radio I would buy to replace it with is prolly a Galaxy 98.
-
Ive never had a galaxy but they're #### good sounding radios. Connex and Galaxy are pretty much the same radio they're both made by RCI both have ranger 3600 boards
-
The 4600 is a better rig. Don't waste your money on the 98vhp.Slowmover1 Thanks this.

Once into that price range I don’t see any consensus those two are “as good” as a Ranger 2970 or Stryker 955.
These two are where I’d start today (with some preference to latter).
OTOH, now we’re into real money. Where a used Amateur equipment is hands-down better by every measure.

Though I’m not planning to run it in the Pete, I found a 100w YAESU FT450D (MSRP $1,100; normally $800) new-in-box with MARS/CAP mod done, shipped for $500.
It wouldn’t quite fit between sun visors or in cubby, (9”x 3.5” x 8,5”), but dashtop in a TAC-COMM Portable Radio Carrier, yes, easily. Just unplug and remove.
Bad as CB’ers are (Constantly Buying) Amateur Radio guys are possibly worse. Deals are out there.
The same unit can be found from $5-600 used, all day. And smaller sized, designed-for-mobile KENWOOD, ICOM and other brand units over a wider price range.
What I’m saying is that there is a limit to dollar value. Especially with “10 Meter Export Radios”. They skirt the law. Dirty power, relatively poor sensitivity, relatively poor filtering, etc. When compared to the real thing.
If you’re up past the $400 range, keep the door open to what is demonstrably better. If giant ears are most important . . . .
(No, it’s not “legal” to run Amateur equipment on 11-meter, But neither is it legal to run above 4w).
Is it a choice between a Connex driving a Sweet 16 or this much less expensive Yaesu? Man, that’s not even a good question.
