Hi everyone,
I have a 1998 379 Peterbilt 3406E cat. The top king pin on the driver side when I try to grease it the cap popped off. Then I put a new cap on it, it won't take the grease, I jacked it up to take the pressure off. Any suggestions on how to get grease in it? Thanks

I've warmed zirk fittings with a propane torch and they took grease. Don't burn the truck down, clean the grease off 1st, but it works.
Bakerman and Cam Roberts Thank this. -
Also if the tiny ball at the end of the zirk gets stuck try pushing it easy with an awl BTDT

Pull the zirk out and clean the inside also. Use a pick.
It's pretty common if not lubed often enough. To harden up inside there. -
Hi snowwy, when I try to grease it the grease is not going down to the king pin.
-
Hi cindy, It's probably hardened up inside the king pin hole. Since you installed a new zirk.

Hi Everyone,
Sorry if I'm not relaying my problem correctly. Grease does go through the grease fitting (zirk) just fine. When I try to grease it the grease goes in but it does not come out all the way at the bottom like it does when I grease the passenger side. It gets hard to use the grease gun and then the threaded cap pops off. I tack welded the cap back on and when I try greasing it the grease comes through the cap around the threads. Thank you all for your help, I appreciate it. -

I would check it for slack though that isn't your problem. If it's time for replacement that would cure the problem all in 1 move. Pull both caps and the jack bolt. Drive the pin down past top of spindle but not out. Lightly hone the crud out of the bushing knock it back up and grease. Old grease will harden and the only way to get it is the old fashioned way.
Buckles, pushbroom, KB3MMX and 1 other person Thank this.
