It does not take long before that little rubber ring gets worn out and you can no longer get a good seal to test the pressure accurately.

Buy a quality gauge that doesn't wear out. Stop buying truck stop junk.
Other than that, simply ignore checking tire pressure. Most people do anyway.

When ever I go to Speedco for oil change I calibrate my gauge against their's. Mine has been exactly 5 psi lower for the last 5 years. So I know when I inflate to 115 psi I'm only at 110.
