Which (the bond) would probably cost about 50k per year. Pretty sweet deal for the big boys. Hard on an owner operator that probably pays a third of that for one truck.
Yep, that's a level playing field.
One could say then that the owner-operators are subsidizing the mega. Just not right.
Anyone else catch this release

Yeah, the more I think about that dude from Alliance Association's "statement" about safety, etc, the more I realize what a sickening shill he actually is.
Lower than the politicians and special interest groups he's pandering to. -
Fair enough. But most of them would still cover a ton of stuff in house. Just from a rate/deductable stand point. Having an in house repair shop will always save money when you have 8000 trucks.laaylor Thanks this.

You are not paying one dime of their bond or insurance.
You can get price breaks as well. That is the original basis of the folks in Grain Valley. It was the only legal way Johnstone could figure to make a living off it. -
Not a chance. I actually believe the hours should be lowered based on the zones out zombies I see sucking down 5 hour energies as they check their pot for downers.

And while I'm at it, here's a winning pull quote from Collin Mooney, executive director of CSVA. He's complaining about the exemptions being granted by the FMCSA.

Mooney
The letter, written by Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance Executive Director Collin Mooney, added that “over the last two years, the agency has issued a number of exemptions from the electronic logging device requirement, a critical safety requirement designed to help combat fatigue on our nation’s roadways and designed to level the playing field for motor carriers seeking to operate safely within the hours-of-service rules.”
WAIT...WHAT? A critical safety requirement?
WHAT...WHAT? Implemented to level the playing field?
Just priceless, man LOL

Rubber duck kw, gokiddogo and Oxbow Thank this. -
Part 395? Absolutely.
You are asking to different questions.
ELDs are about compliance. Nothing more.
Part 395 is designed to give drivers the opportunity to get needed breaks too operate safely.laaylor Thanks this. -
Yeah, drawing lines on paper with a ruler is just SO darn tiring. Good thing we have this 30 minute break. Just think of the thousands of innocent lives that have been saved
-
Drivers have always had the opportunity to pull over and take a break. If anything they are under more pressure now because of the ticking clock.
That is an HOS matter, but it can certainly be argued that ELDs may be causing detrimental unintended consequences. Until it can be proven otherwise it appears to be solely a move by the big boys to be able to remain competitive.gokiddogo Thanks this.
