Here's the best tip I can offer on this thread.

You know how to drive a car....fill it up and hit the road. Drive through every area that has Trucking companies, and look for the signs. You may have better luck with a cement or dump company.

I'm seeing a lot of companies that are hiring out here. But they're smaller companies, without the national advertising dollars. They simply take ads out in the local paper, or stick signs out front of the yard.

Having worked for many smaller companies myself, it's hit and miss. Some suck, others are great. In the meantime, it's a job.

Once this stimulus package takes hold. You're going to see a massive migration of drivers, to Class B operations. Leaving the OTR companies in a lurch, once more.

For now, that's our light at the end of the tunnel. If I had to stick a number to it. I would guess up to 75% of the "new" drivers coming into trucking will bail the first opportunity they get. They don't want to be away from home. But for now, it's a simple matter of necessity.

Hey jact-I would not trade my experiences for a million dollars.Well on second thought as of right now i would ,but overall I'd go straight into trucking just like before.I guess i was addressing the newbies and their overall experiences.
I got in trucking,IMO, during the last of the fun and wild/wide open days.Ga. to Cali and back every week by myself, snatching carpet west and jerking produce back east. There was an 8 year span of my life that was a complete blur.THAT is the time i am referencing.Running 75-80 thru 55 texas. Pulling the staples out of log books to add/take out pages.Long live loose leaf logs!I need to cease my flashback as many will call me a liar as they type in their HOS electronically. But anyways-
My luck is seemingly turning around and this company is old school w/NO quallcom and trucks that run 74. I believe they run loose leaf too! A man(driver) has to reach a happy median i reckon and I am happy at the prospect of climbing back up into a truck.
Best of luck to all in their job search and best of luck to all of us drivers in general.
    The times are a changing-
