I think that if there was some sort of programmer used at some time on it corrupted files could be a real possibly.
The foreign object you found in the tank was it in the tank that was split or the main tank?

    In drivers side fuel tank.
    Split tank is right tank.
I wrote a letter via email to CAT head office last night asking for help again, with files from a 6NZ or 2WS on a loaner ECM so to rule it in or out. No reply yet.

    Hulld Thanks this.

I’ve been reading back thru the thread and it seems that that’s the only thing that hasn’t been changed.
    Is this true?

Pretty sure a mobile tech let him run with a loaner ECM.

A couple different ECM's but they have always pulled his program out and put it into the loaner ECM.

    Feedman and Oxbow Thank this.

The base file would be installed fresh each time. Only his parameters would be carried over. Parameters cant cause a missfire

I wouldn't call it a misfire, more the feeling of incorrect fuel supply and only at top gears.
In summer heat while pulling a nearly non noticeable grade up, coolant temps climb rapidly, engine lacks power, engine shakes and stumbles.
Back out of throttle at any time, any outside temps, for 5+ seconds and I can hammer down with absolutely zero power loss or stumbling.
Also, I can be stumbling along at 65mph and then a near not noticeable down grade starts and I can put foot to floor with zero problems.
It's like if truck road speed increases with throttle down, the engine likes it and behaves.
Another; I can never use 18th gear, just no pulling power and stumbles. But there's a tall arch bridge I muscle up to cross 2x daily. Once rolling down and I'm back at 65 mph +, and I'm in 18th gear, engine will easily maintain that speed, in 18th, with lots of power in the throttle.
Road speed seems to effect it all.
Engine runs tip top as I go through bottom gears, even the first few gears in high range (11,12, 13th all good) and then the engine labors harder in 14, harder and longer time before next shift into 15th but still no overlee horrific. 16th and 17th cause BIG stumbling like running out of fuel. And 18th I can't pick as only with help rolling down hill can engine pull 18th gear once I'm at bottom of hill / grade at highways speed (65mph+) and I can keep it in 18th pulling strong for however long I maintain that speed, in that 18th gear.

I would still like you to call the people at Cleveland Bros. Turbotville PA. Tell the truck service people what is going on maybe email the important parts of this thread such as the previous post. At this point you have nothing to lose.

    Oxbow and SAR Thank this.

When you put it like that the first thing that comes to my mind is hot fuel.If your fuel return is restricted in some way and letting that fuel stay in the head too long you will get that exact problem. It could be from several reasons for the restrictions, a bad valve in filter housing, the diverter block on frame has trash in it, the galley in head has a blockage, combustion gas is getting into fuel rail. Just to name a few. Just because you hear fuel running back into tank doesn’t mean it is escaping the head fast enough. Another problem that sounds like what you have is when someone has put a 1/2 watt 150ohm resistor in place of the fuel temp sensor. I have seen those go bad and cause your symptoms to the t. If you don’t have a blockage somewhere in the return and don’t have the resistor I would be looking hard at the sensor and wiring harness. But for the most part I believe at the end of all this if there is an end you will find air finding its way into the fuel system under load or a blocked return.
