I pick my own hotels and dont get nickel and dimed. They're just happy I'm out because everybody and their mother wants to sign on and be home everyday. You're better off if the company doesnt plan your hotel stays. Alot of the car haulers I talk to get told where to stay and it just sounds like a headache. just plan well around the oilfields. the hotels are usually jam packed with straight tanks and pick ups. just like truck stop days, you'll figure out your go to's and which ones to avoid.

I use the CLC app. its pretty good for the most part but you're still better off making a phone call and asking about the parking situation.

I found that sometimes even though Corporate Lodging says that a particular Hotel participates when I arrived at the hotel they told me they wouldn't accept the Corporate Lodging card. I guess the hotels pick and choose when they want to accept it and generally they only accept it when they have a bunch of empty rooms and they're desperate to fill them.

Agreed. I've found that alot of my Go-to hotels in the southeastern states particularly Tennessee dont accept CLC in the summertime. at that point I just swipe the company credit card but I do understand that some drivers dont have that option. Like I said, unless it's a place I have been to a bunch of times, I always call instead of using the book the reservation button. The CLC app also doesnt show half of the hotels in the area that accept the card so your phone is still still your best friend.

I'm curious. If I'm a local driver that is paid hourly. If we get stuck out somewhere and have to get a hotel instead of going home, wouldn't a company have to pay until the next day? You aren't free to have someone pick you up and must stay with the truck. So you are kinda held captive watching the company's truck for free instead of being home with your family during "your time off"

If it's planned no. I'm currently in a holiday inn Express that my company puts me up in twice a week. I'm not on the clock and not getting paid until I punch back in. I'm not held captive at the truck, my trailers are at the yard and maybe I'll take a Uber somewhere. I could be at home with my family instead of here but I work nights, why not take the extra money and linehaul when they are just gonna be on bed anyways?

When I have to run an overnight I go off the clock on my 10 hour break. I don’t expect to get paid for being off duty.
I would not care if they sent me to the west coast in a day cab, don’t mind a hotel room every night, beats sleeping in a truck!

Which way pays better with less tax consequences.

My bro in law used to do dedicated Los Angeles.
    They had a dedicated motel.

We are given a corporate lodging card and a company credit card for hotels. Stay anywhere a truck can fit.

It's just weird because it is a local job. home everyday, but if you ever do get stuck which rarely happens. They expect you to stay at hotel off the clock. If any other hourly job told you that you are not allowed to go home once you clock out, that would be a problem. That is if you haven't signed some kind of contract. One guys got stuff 40 miles from the terminal, and instead of sending another 2 drivers to get him, they made him stay in a hotel.
