Can you add Endorsements while you have your paper CDL?

Yes on hazmat/tanker
No on doubles/triples

 

I would guess you’ll just receive a new paper copy after you take the test. But call DMV and make sure you don’t need the hard copy so they can void it out.

 

I think what you are asking is can you get a CDL changed after you get it. I highly doubt they will let you do that. Most states use 3rd parties to actually print those hard copies!

 

NO on Hazmat ! I went to IndenitGo to get finger printed for my backround test in order to get a Hazmat endorsement.

I still had my paper copy of my CDL A. The lady at IdentiGo said should could NOT process me any further because they could NOT scan paper Licenses. I would have to wait to get the hard copy from the DMV.

 

I asked this very question to the IL dmv when i got my license 2 weeks ago. They is said i would have to wait 5 days to take any of the endoursements after i passed my test for my cdl. That how long it would take for it to process thru the system before i could add endorsements. So i just took all my endorsements the same day right after i passed my license test. Obviously this could vary state to state but thats how IL works. I also didnt have to pay any more fees to add all the endoursements since I did them the same day as the test. Hard card came in the about a week later.

 

Pull the throttle back. You get your paper license and immediately go for Hazmat ?
In Virginia it take about 3-5 days to receive a hard copy in the mail. I got my Hazmat Endorsement when it arrived.
So, Yes on Hazmat if you have any shred of patience.

 

Idk if you are asking me or the OP, but I got all my endorsements right away because they are required for the LTL jobs I applied for. I was hoping it would hold some weight if it came down to myself and another person, i would hopefully get the job because I already had all my endorsements.
