I drive local back and forth between 125-175 miles one way but it is very common for me to work so many hours that I cannot legally make it back to my terminal without having to take sleeper berth time(sometimes I don't even make it home for a shower even though it's 5 miles away from where I load) on the road. So in this instance if I can back that up with my log books, am I allowed per diem?

It is a gray area. You are technically returning to the home terminal. However, the amount of the time out would not be a substantial figure and most likely you would not be in a problem area. It could be lost on the audit, but most likely overlooked by the dollar amount.

    Waterfowler Thanks this.

I could be wrong, would not be the first time nor the last, I just know she took the allowed deductions, she always explains what for, but my brain short circuits after the first few minutes of her throwing numbers at me and I go numb, but she is great at what she does and she does everybody including two mayors with never a problem and I live in a very rural area so if somebody had a problem everybody in the county would know before the day was out. I trust her, i have been through one audit and never want to go through another one, so I will let those who know what they are talking about to correct me when I am wrong, did not mean to pass on bad info if it is.

H and R block is a joke, i learned this after my first year. Get yourself a real accountant that has experience with big-truck drivers, it'll do you a world of good. Make it as personal as you can, be his friend. Worked out great for me.

I can only speak from my exp. But I don't care for them or use them.

Please find a trucking person to do your taxes don't go to H & R if anything is in the gray area they will lean toward the irs... find you someone else. they don't always give you the right allowance for the day.

I had a sullvians go back 3 years on the H & R block and they got me back 3000 dollars on things they cheated me on.

check out white line in flordia or someone. NEVER EVER go with H and R. They just aint good enough when it comes to trucking.

And when you do find someone have them go back a few years and see if they can find you some money that you were cheated out of.
