No doubt about that. All I'm getting is a 34, and I'll be working while I'm home. But my 70 was getting a little too lean, and if I don't get to hold the love of my life at least once every couple weeks I get cranky. Here's a little more insight to the O/O world, for those looking at it. If you're running off a board like I am, the magic number seems to be 5 days. Stay 5 days ahead, always. If you look 3 or 4 days ahead for loads, you may have missed a gold nugget and the board is going to thin out for your search parameters. If you go too far ahead, you will be hurting yourself as well. Better loads will populate as the 5 day window approaches. I just did a load search for my area on the 19th, because I am going in for service on the 18th. Bone dry. 2 loads available and it's typically 40-50. I've been asked by a lot of folks why I haven't made a thread for my time at Landstar. The answer is extremely simple. If you work there, I am not going to give away stuff like this on a thread that will benefit other drivers there and dry up my lanes. But I know there are plenty of folks on this thread that have aspirations of ownership. I'll help you, but I'm not helping the whole dam community. It's like your dad yelling when you leave the refrigerator door open too long. "Are you trying to cool the whole neighborhood?" Nope, just my Millis folks. I've been dragging my feet turning in my 2290 to the permits department. I'm about to step into a new universe in August and trying to make sure it's a leap I'm ready for. I need to make that decision today because base plate renewal happens in March and the deadline is approaching. I have the option to go 3 months, 6 months, or 12 months on these plates. If I take this leap I need 6. If I make that choice, there's no turning back. Where's my Magic 8 Ball when I need it?

I wish I could give y'all a pretty view of life beyond company driving. It's good on this side but I am moving faster than what's natural. Once I settle in on the advanced side (coming sooner than comfortable) I'll finally create a thread. Hope y'all are doing well.

I feel like this doesn't get said enough... welcome to our tribe. I also feel like THIS doesn't get said enough. You're holding a lot of power in your wallet now. Nobody can ever take that CDL from you except you. We'll always be in demand, you'll always have a job. If you're a relatively savvy person and pay attention to what's going on in the world and react accordingly, your new career is dam near recession-proof. Keep the shiney side up, watch your 6, and always check your pins. Nice job man :)

Thanks for talking to me on that crappy day, SJ. Just want to clarify that I in no way think the fiasco was Millis's fault. When I informed the dispatcher, he was genuinely surprised and reacted pretty quickly in getting me back to the terminal. The CFO of Millis took a couple hours out of his day, to help me out and get me further down the road. So I do thank those 2 and whomever else at Millis was involved in getting me home. I also thank the 2 Wisconsin ladies who came through for me that day. Plus a huge thank you for my wife. She left work immediately that day, to come pick me up. As for whose fault it was, well, I am not going to say.

But anyway, I got my truck last Thursday, delivered a load, in a blizzard. So at this point I have a grand total of 4 hours behind the wheel all by myself.

Since no one else seems to be posting. Here is a quick PSA. My brother in law who I knew for over 20 years was like Iron Man. The man never got sick always did whatever needed to get done. He was a great husband to my sister and an incredible father to his and others children.
Well on December 23 he was complaining of severe back pain. My sister insisted he go to the ER after about 2 hours a doctor came in and informed him he had cancer. Apparently he had cancer for over a year. A tumor on his spine. Well of course the decision was made to fight it. First thing was to get him healthy enough for radiation treatment. After about a week he received his first and only radiation treatment.
Following the first radiation treatment he started getting worse. It was discovered he had a tumors in his stomach, liver and kidneys. At that point no one was willing to give up but we all knew the odds were stacked against him.
For about 3 weeks the battle was to get him healthy enough to start chemo. Any bit of good news was always followed by something terrible. On January 23 he suffered a stroke and it was discovered that the cancer had reached his brain. At that point the doctors told us all they can do is keep him comfortable.

So the PSA is if you have a nagging injury or a pain that just doesn’t seem to go away, don’t try to tough it out, go and see a DR. My brother in law started out with stomach cancer which according to doctors is cureable if caught in the early stages.

There's so many of these old hands that are complete technophobes. It wouldn't surprise me if a good percentage of them didn't have a smartphone. Luddites crack me up. As somebody that made a good living working with computers for two decades I know first-hand how quickly one can ruin your day when things go south. But the utter hatred I see and hear out there for GPSes, smart phones, and even credit cards is pretty ridiculous and amusing. None of these things are bad when USED PROPERLY.

Credit card phobia is my favorite. People are scared to death they're gonna get their credit card number stolen. I've had mine stolen and it ain't that big of a deal to get straightened out. They're one of the best cash flow management tools out there.

Yeah my mom is terrified of using her credit card online. So it’s kinda funny when she asks me to use my credit card for her online purchases.
