My husband is a FMS driver. He's been with JB Hunt for 10 years, with 650,000 safe miles. This is a typical week for him. Mondays is a lot of local deliveries, and he typically works from 6am-5pm. Tuesdays and Thursdays are longer runs, typically 350-400 miles of driving, and he typically works from 6am-8pm. Wednesday varies from getting home between 6 and 8pm, with a start time of 6am. Friday is typically the same route every week, about 320 miles of driving, and usually from 6am-6pm. That's a good week. On weeks where the weather is bad, the hours are longer, and about 1-3 times a winter he can't make it home and has to sleep in the day cab. A lot of the roads he travels are 2 lanes that are just wide enough for his truck.

Pay is about $1,200 - $1,300 a week gross, and about $350 net. He was promised a significant raise about a month ago by the VP, but we have yet to see it.

There is no calling off. Right now he has walking pneumonia and the only way to get a day off is to put in for it 2 weeks in advance.

My question is, is this normal of FMS? Does FMS really stand for the final miles you'll drive in your life?

Wait, what? How do you get $350 out of $1200?

Child Support, Insurance, Retirement. Insurance alone is almost $1,200 a month.

Don't companies usually offer lower cost insurance due to bulk discounts? I would have expected a large company such as JB Hunt to have some pull there. I'm at a 100 truck company and pay about 250 a month for great coverage. Child support was what I was suspecting though. That or alimony. $1200 is pretty good for the industry. Depending on my week I'll see between 1100 and 1500, but I see a much higher percentage.

Insurance is a standard rate for yourself and up to 4 dependents, after 4 the amount increases. He's got 7.

Not allowed to sleep in a day cab. Well you can, but it doesn't count as sleeper time it you don't have a sleeper.
Company has to provide a motel.

It is his own fault for not standing his ground. 1 you cannot take your time off (10 hour break) in a day cab, illegal and JB Hunt will hang him out to dry if there's accident. As to his work schedule I will not settle for 10 hours off between loads on a day cag, I want at least 10 hours off at home.

This is up to him to stand up, local is tough no doubt.

doesn't sound like too bad of a job but 400.00 a week for health insurance is bs I would think very seriously about not having it especially if you dont own a house or not a lot of equity in it . hospitals would put you on a payment plan would be a lot less than 400.00 a week ...... probably be better to go on welfare and work under the table they totally screwed up health care for any body that works with the so called afford able health care act

The op is not being honest at all. First of all she has 3 posts. Red flag right there. Second, Final mile is multiple stops not miles so another red flag. Third, FAMILY insurance is 198 per week. Dental for family is additional 9.00.

And she talked to the VP?? Really? And HE promised him a raise? What are they smoking?

    Fake news is everywhere drivers!!
