Loading, unloading or transferring from one truck to another, it’s crazy. One of these days I’m gonna run one of them over.[/QUOTE]
If you see my truck unloading on the shoulder it is because that is where I have to unload because that particular dealer has no place for me on the lot. I am not there to piss off people. l can remember a day many years ago when a “Professional Driver” would have slowed down and moved over when possible to go by me. Now they won’t even move over when the other lane is open.Last edited: Feb 14, 2019
Auctiongirl and brian991219 Thank this. -
The problem I see is that some people who have looked at a carhauler going down the road think how hard could that possibly be. As we both know it is much harder than it looks. I won’t speak to your business model because I am not sure what yours is, but I will speak about mine. It isn’t all sunshine and roses and I have to constantly have my A Game on, but there still is some #### good money to be made. Can someone who knows absolutely nothing about hauling cars or trucking do what I do successfully, probably not. But I will gladly let them try because I am not vested in their game. Are there some people currently doing exactly what I do that are going broke? Probably but I don’t have a vested interest in them either. I am a firm believer that if one is properly trained, financially prepared and well motivated they can be successful even when others are not.
100% of the freight I currently haul recently was awarded a 3 year contract. I probably will be doing this for 3 more years unless something better comes along. In 3 years if it stays as good or gets better I will keep doing it. If it gets worse or I decide I don’t like it, I will do something else which may be retirement. Until then car hauling provides me with a #### good living, but it #### well better because I earn my pay. Not every truck driver can do what I do and not every truck driver that can do what I do will do what I do.
One of the better carriers in this business recently lost a major customer at two plants. Many of their drivers are leaving car haul because to go with the carrier that got the business would supposedly mean taking a pay cut. The manufacturers need to remember this because carhaulers such as myself and others will not work cheap and there are very good paying jobs available holding a steering wheel.Last edited: Feb 14, 2019

Some of the Big 3 freight is cheap when compared to some of the better foreign companies freight building cars right here in the USA.Kozakvod Thanks this.

Finally, some qualified comments and not the "Why ask why's" Good gawd...
I'm fortunate that now and again I get some FANTASTIC paying loads, but it's not common. That said, there has to be a minimum, a bottom that says if the price is below this I don't go. Oddly, there are obvious those out there that will take ANYTHING and ANY PRICE. And their WH orish attitude is ruining this business.
Case-in-point. Today some dumb-A out of Peoria AZ posted a 8 units from Dallas to Peoria, $1900 $0.22/ea/mile. And if you happen to be reading this and you're the sorry POS that took that load...F U! It was a Tahoe, 2 Explorers, Suburban, Escape, Fusion, and two other cars I don't remember. I'm SICK of that crap. Hell it cost $600 just in fuel to run out there from here. $1300 after fuel to the truck for 2 days of running? Walking around for 2-3 hrs in the auction. Running most likely overweight. WTF?
Then there are the RAM 3500, 4500, 5500 (substitute for Chevy & Ford) 3, 4, & 5 car Kaufman's of the world out here with the "Something is better than nothing" mentality. NO IT'S NOT. If you're that desperate for a car or two that you can't sit and wait on better paying units that you need to get out because you're just a financial screw up away from bankruptcy anyway. You can't run that close to the financial edge all the time and expect to live to tell about it.
NEW Cars...please. I took a load of Terrains and Equinox from the KC rail in Beasley to Lubbock recently. One of the units sitting on the ground at the rail yard had more dents on it brand new than I do at 56 yo. Everything was marked, photographed, signed off on by KC Southern. I get to the dealer in Lubbock and that little SH^T marks everything AGAIN and says, we have to report as a claim. I said that's fine but you're not going to attempt to hang it on me. 6 weeks later RPM claims calls me, GM is claiming damage on so in so unit, do you know anything about it? YEAH I KNOW ABOUT IT! Thankfully I had time and date stamped photos or I'd have gotten stuck with the $500 claim, EVEN THOUGH KC SOUTHERN had noted the damage and signed off. Now that load paid really well so I can't complain about that, but we're the ones taking ALL the risks out here and with a WHOLE BUNCH of people taking this cheap ### cars NO THANK YOU!
You want to haul cars because you think this is glamorous? You're delusional and probably voted for Hillary too. Stay away, PLEASE!
Yeah I'm pissed. I paid my dues. I paid and continue to pay for the REAL price of admission and I'm sick and tired of seeing the highway's full of $0.27/mile guys. If that's ALL you think you're worth, you're probably right!!Car hauler2015 and Auctiongirl Thank this. -
Lol. Also some make it happen, some watch it happen, and some wonder what happened.Atlanticus trucking and ast26909 Thank this.

Sure there is a big whiner in this thread. It's a free market, take or don't take vehicles at your pleasure but DON'T TELL OTHERS WHAT TO DO. Afford others the same choices afforded you, live and let live.
Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
Least we all know of one person taking it on the cheap. If you don’t find truth in my words, prove me wrong, I’ll wait.Hammer166 Thanks this.
-
What truth? Transporters taking low priced loads? Customers try to claim existing damage on you? Pickup trucks pulling 4/5 car trailers? Ha, it happens thousand of times everyday, get with the program.
You are having a midlife crisis, get with the ladies more often it helps to relief tension. -
First, you don’t know the first thing about me so feel free to KMA!
Second, if more of us raised a voice against cheap vehicles and those who carry them MAYBE some things would change.
But instead there are people like you who just says “who cares” and all the while things just get worse. So my guess is you’re one of the ones taking cheap cars otherwise you wouldn’t be so adamant to defend and make excuses.Hammer166 and Auctiongirl Thank this.
