Cheapest Route From NJ to Islip NY

You pay to leave NJ but the escape from New York is free.

Pay to go over the Outer Bridge or the Goethals and take the Verrazzano [free towards Brooklyn] follow to the BQE up through Brooklyn to the LIE into the Island...ignore the low bridge sign on the BGQ 13'6" fits nicely...

Coming back take the LIE to the Clearview Exp north to the Throgs Neck Bridge [pay one way at a time vrs the Verrazzano toll one way at 2x the cost] To Rt 95 and a free ride over the GWB

The downside is NJ turnpike back down to exit 9 which takes a dent out of the one way toll you saved on the city bridges....it might be better to come back and pay the VZ as this excursion adds to the miles and adds in the Cross Bronx which is enough to give anyone an ulcer

How tall is your unit @TopDog20? New Brunswick- get to 287 south run across the outer bridge to 440 to 278 to 495 to Deer Park Ave to 27/ Sunrise Highway east to islip.
Go back 27 to 231/ deer park ave to 495 to clearview/295 to 95 south to 80 west to 287 south if you’re 13’6”.

the outerbridge toll going from NJ into NY will be $77.50 - $105 depending on time of day/day of the week. but that looks like the only one

If you’re under 13’ tall I give you the scenic route that’ll save the outbound toll.

 

Outerbridge to verrazano, 278 to 495 exit 51, way back 27 to 231 to 495 over 295, throgs neck bridge over gwb to turnpike exit 15E go down on 1&9
