Any one of out there knows of a good reputable, reliable hauling / towing company that charges fair prices? My truck broke down and I need to haul it back home. 2013 Freightliner Cascadia, I need to move it from Cumming IA and brought to New Brunswick NJ. I would appreciate it if any one can refer me some one from their own experience or first hand knowledge that I can contact. Send me names and contact info please. Thank you.

It’ll be cheaper more than likely to fix your truck on the road.

Or find someone who’s willing to let you borrow a truck and a tow hook and go hook it up yourself., or well maybe a low boy pay them as a rate to bring it back. Otherwise yeah fix it in ia

Yes, that was the plan until the mechanics orignal quote went from $5000 to $20000. I was having a hard time coming up with the 5K imagine my shock when it skyrocked. I have to bring it back.

What do you consider fair? It will need a lowbed trailer or tow truck, average freight rate is almost $3 per mile for lowbed trailers. You are looking at $3-4k for the haul on a trailer and about $5-6k for a long haul wrecker company.

Try Sancrest Specialized, Jordan is the contact. I don't have their number handy but they can be found on Google. Great people, can handle inop and odd vehicles. They will rreat you right.

First of all what is wrong with the truck? That’s a crazy jump in price. Unless the motor exploded I would figure out a way to limp it home.
    BUT...

    But

    But..

You’re going to spend that 5-6k to tow it home and then another 5-10 to fix it.... so wouldn’t it make more sense to invest that 5k to try and fix it and then another 5-10 if needed to fix it? I feel like it’ll be a lot more to take it home and then try and fix it.

Long story short, initially they said oil mixed in with coolent so I needed a head gasket work done so price quote for that is $5000 now they are saying I need to rebuilt the engine so now the price for that is around $20,000. I can''t afford that so my only option is to bring it home. I am looking for a hauler but I am also thinking of renting a wrecker and bringing it back myself.

And they’re sure it’s not the oil cooler? Taking it that there is no oil in the coolant reservoir and only in the engine?

It looks like this is happening often these days. They quote you a reasonable price, then after they take the engine apart the price jumps significantly.
If you had oil in the coolant it is most likely the oil cooler, but can also be head gasket. Did they run any tests?
If your engine really needs rebuilding $20,000 sounds reasonable. The problem with a shop you don’t know is that after they take the rest of your engine apart the quote may go up into 30k.
Try to get recommendations for another shop in the area or expect to pay $3-$4 per mile to take it home.
    Good luck.
