At the Loves in Tom's Brook, VA today most people were pulling in and shutting down. An obviously new Western Express driver came in the wrong way because a bunch of other drivers were blocking the sign that said do not enter. Long story short a bunch of us tried to block traffic so he could just go straight ahead and avoid backing up but the guy plowing the parking lot told him no and that he would call the cops if he went the wrong way (jerk move on the employees part). Anyways 6 of us were helping him get out of this situation and than theres the guy filming it and laughing at him. What does any of that accomplish? His mistake was honest and he wasnt the only one who made the same mistake but filming these drivers and laughing doesnt do anything. Why dont veteran drivers actually get out and help rookies anymore instead of just calling them stupid? If I see someone struggle I at least attempt to help even though I am still a greenhorn

The culture changed approximately the time of 9-11 before sufficient numbers of overseas drivers got hired to where you see the lack of assistance in no one helping and a whole lot of laughing etc. Which is not good.

Toms back in the day was a righteous truckstop but it is clear to me all of that has gone away along with the old Kings of the Road expectation of helping one another.

I do not expect this to improve, it's going to infect each generation successively more worster (How bout that grammar eh?) I won't be alive to see it really get bad.

Ive done my share of helping and getting helped and it was good for the most part.

Remember anyone who has that kind of idle time on their hands and being nosy to where they jeer and tease with bad names they are not true truckers. They are something else that will never benefit America in any particularly useful way.

If one of them needed help a day or two later and you told that one, sorry. You teased and jeered with bad words when someone needed help. You will not get that help from me. (If he really needed help and need a good mensch to get into battle to save him if only for the sake of wife and kids etc. Then he will get it. Sorta.)

I'll help a driver that's helping himself by getting out and looking when he's trying to back but in my experience the vast majority of these guys out here dont get out and look. Therefore I'm certainly not getting out to help.

As for the plow driver I would have laughed at him and told him to be my guest and call the police.

Because alot of these drivers will just cuss you out if you offer to help. I had one pull a pistol on me when I offered to help because he was about to hit another truck and after that I said #### it I ain't offering help any more. Now if they come to me and ask for help; I will.

I'll ask do you want me to help because some like to learn to tie their own shoes. I pick up at a company that pays a guy to help you tarp some take it some don't. I told the young guy don't argue with rude people let them be. It's that way in a lot of environments. I appreciate people's help if I need it. :D:D

You were the real truck driver on the scene. The others that were laughing and filming are the fake truck drivers; the ones at the coffee counter that, "Don't need no stinkin' truck drivin' school."
Congratulations to you for being the professional on the scene.

If there are already 6 guys helping,, there are at least 3 too many actively involved. Me getting involved won't make anything better, so I would be doing something to make my life better while I waited.

Six of us were helping only because traffic needed to be blocked off because the guy at the Loves was being a douche. I'm more or less pointing out that if you dont bring any value to the situation why not just keep moving and minding your own business instead of pointing out what you think he did wrong. The roads are crappy, drivers were blocking the sign, and you could tell he clearly wasnt comfortable driving in the conditions. We all pleaded for him to park but we cant physically drive the truck for him. At the end if the day we helped him and that's all that matters. I for one am not going to ever sit in the cab of my truck and criticize anyone else about how they should or shouldn't drive their truck

I remember starting as a newb, I was grateful for those whom did more than sit in their trucks and laugh.
To this day I try to help where and when I can
