If you are to purchase a brand new chassi to put a box on and do expediting work and a small straight truck, which one would you choose? Ford Transit or GMC?
    Feel free to elaborate!

Ram with a Cummins. You want something reliable and there is no better diesel out there in the pickup market.

P.S. I am, of course, referring to the 4500 or 5500 chassis trucks, not a 1500 or 2500 with a pickup bed.

I’ll take the Allison over it, but the Cummins is the better engine.

Would it not be awesome if they would make a pickup..
Ford frame and axles, the Cummins powerplant, with an Allison transmission?

That would be great, but I think this new Chevy coming out will have the frame and axles you’ll want instead.
It may actually be the best dually on the market sans the Isuzu engine..

No, it would not be awesome. Nothing with an automatic transmission is awesome.

The newer automatics can pull way more weight than the manuals. Dozens of clutches compared to one. I am sure you are old school like me & prefer the control of the vehicle with a manual, but they will be a thing of the past here in a few more years.

And there is absolutely no reason for that, other than lack of sense used by the college educated idiots designing the trucks failing to take into account what the actual purpose of a truck is. (Further evidence of this is the vast number of useless "trucks" that have huge passenger compartments ahead of a 4' pickup box.) A friend of mine put an Eaton transmission behind the Cummins in his Dodge. We had it out a couple years ago swapping some gears to give him overdrive. Guarantee that has a higher rating than ANY automatic transmission the OEM's are putting in these trucks. The bellhousings, flywheels, clutches, etc...all exist, and it obviously fits. Wouldn't take much effort for them to put them in at the factory for those who want a heavy duty work truck that is capable of pulling a load. IMG_20170715_1933056.jpg

Hey i love the Cummins 6.7 but that Isuzu Duramax is one hell of a motor!

I've seen a Duramax with 900k original (LLY) miles but plenty of 400-600k Cummins trucks.
I think the frame is what gets the Dodge they rust apart.

I'd like to see a Cummins or Isuzumax with a AMT like a 10 spd.

The big bonus is in the TC , it's torque multiplication gives a big starting advantage.

The Allison shortfall is it needs 8 speeds or better. The rest of that Allison is way more solid than the traditional automotive automatic transmissions(weak)
