I'm no flatbedder so I thought I'd run this by you folks. A company in my city is advertising for flatbed drivers. Looks to be deliveries to the large home improvement box stores. They use all of the buzz words in the ad; two years experience, must be comfortable with physical work in all weather conditions, experience with taro's and straps, yadda, yadda, yadda. Then they say it's a temporary to permanent position. Pay rate is $17/hour...in a city with a booming economy. Sounds a bit light to me.

Most local jobs average in that range of pay where I live. The best paying ones, nobody is leaving. I guess it's the average because you don't have to look far to find drivers who wanna be home daily
-
WOW! That's scary.
-
Yep it’s light. I would be thinking $20/hr

Depends on how much work and the city. If it's all strap and go in a low cost of living area, that's probably about right. Just depends on the job and locality.

Sounds like Home Depot via Ryder. Was better when It was a Home Depot job.

$17/hour to run local for home improvement box store deliveries? You gotta be kidding me! That offer doesn't even qualify as an insult! Heck, it barely qualifies as a blasted joke!
$20/hour is at least on the low end of an insult. I still wouldn't bother getting out of bed for such low pay, though.spindrift and addrenjunky Thank this. -
Depends on your skill level. If you're just learning it's okay, still a little low. If you have experience, not a chance.

What’s sad is $17/hour is still considered good money in my decade behind the times pro-union town. That’s why I haven’t had a job in town since I was a teenager. I’d say $17 for part time, $22 for full. Delivering to big box stores is usually a pain in the ###. There’s always some prick there who likes to pretend to be important, and makes life hard for truck drivers. I believe this is a prerequisite to being a receiver at Home Depot. I’ve delivered stuff to three different HDs, and almost had to beg each one them to unload me.
Tug Toy, cke and Tombstone69 Thank this. -
Ain't much better in Alaska I had a company Alaska West transport try to hire me locally for $19 an hour things are really expensive in Alaska I almost hurt myself I laughed so hard as I was walking out the door.
At the time it was summer and I was hauling Rock on eielson air Force Base at $62 an hour high-skill davis-bacon.
Most over the road jobs in Alaska are about $0.65 a mile with the exception of the Dalton highway that's usually $0.95 a mile.Tug Toy Thanks this.
