How do you keep them plugged into a moving truck if they’re under ground??

Ha ha.... you're as bad as my wife.
She comes into the shack and asked

Sweetie, what is with the 100 foot trench in front yard for?

It is for an antenna - My response

What do you mean an antenna?

An antenna for the ham radio, so I can talk to the men at the center of the earth. - My response

*******! Was her response and walked out the room.

Seriously it is a functioning antenna, it was experimented on either during WW1 or just after for submarine communications and was or is still used for that purpose. Some time in the 30's it was rediscovered and used. During WW2 it was used by the underground in France and even in Germany, but after the war it was forgotten until someone wrote an article about in in I think '47 of his quest to find someone who had made this myth of an antenna. I have a copy of that months QST where the article appears.

It does work with some limitations, it is very quiet and performs about the same as a low hanging dipole.

Rabbi sent me picture of his new antenna........He might be waiting on further research on it before he reveals it. Hope I didn't let the cat out of the bag!

Yep I have friends who worked on project elf up in the UP, when they took it down, they were out of work.

But seriously, if you are an arrl member, you have access to the archives and look it up.

"Hey... anybody know what's going on on the eastbound side? Is it a wreck , or construction? What lane we need to be in?"

"What's going on up here?... I just turnt my radio on"

"Anybody know what lane we spose ta be in?"

They have radios. I feel ZERO sympathy and give ZERO late info to latecomers.

I take it easy on latecomers. The range limitations of CB, combined with the sporadic reporting of problems, are often the reason for us not being up-to-date on road problems.

You can do it yourself. I assume your antennas are on the mirrors like mine. Just a couple things needed to make it great. Good coax, ground, and get the coil above the mirror. Here is my step by step coax install and antenna grounding video.
